Were to drill and gph?

I am thinking of going from a 46 bf to a 50 gal Tall so I could keep all my same lighting and equipment but be able to not have the risks of an overflow since I cannot drill my bf. The question I have is were do I drill the hole and how do I figure out the gph I will get from it? I have a mag 7 return pump that runs at about 500 gph at 3' how large would the drilled hole need to be?
