I was planning on running 2 Aqua Clear 50's on my 55 gallon. But today I came across a canister filter for a ridiculous price. My problem is my tank was built into the wall. I have no room for the canister filter to sit beside the tank. My question is this, How High or low past the tank can the filter be, before it impedes normal operation. I have room above and below just not on either side of the tank. This is the canister..CF400UV 4-Stage Canister Filter with UV 9W - 370 gph.

Any thoughts or advice will be appreciated.

I have a Fluval 304 sitting on the floor. the nozzle is about 5 feet above the floor. Its a PITA to prime, but with quick release, it rarely loses prime, so aside from setting it up the first time, I've never had a problem.

I think the manual says its benificial to have it as high up as you can.

... but who reads manuals, anyway.

Excuse my ignorance, but are canister filters powered or gravity fed? Just wondering because I dont see a pump or power cord in any pics
