Why is catch basin of my skimmer filling with water?

I bought this system from a gentleman who claimed you just "plug it in and go"... or something to that effect. It looked to be running fine at his place (I bought the whole tank and everything else).

But now once its hooked up, the skimmer is filling up with murky water - is this normal? I did just fill the tank and its muddy as the live sand is all stirred up.

sounds normal to me. Is it bubbling then overflowing or is water just running into the cup? With dirty water it will fill quite fast.

The cup at the top was filling up. Perhaps I should let the dust settle before running it?

And should the cup come off? OR do I have to take the whole unit out of my sump? The owner said it was a Aquabee or something to that effect?

Aqua C and the collection cup should unscrew by loosening gasket or something to that effect. Twist maybe. Sounds like a skimmer! Im about to purchase a skimmer myself...just did.
