55G Reef Build (UK)

Hi guys,

I'm new to the site and about to start adding coral to my current tank. Before I do would love to get your input / recommendations on what you guys would do with this?

Occupants currently include:

1 x cleaner shrimp
2 x dancing Shrimp
2 x oscillaris clowns
1 x yellow breasted damsel
3 x neon damselfish
1 x fire clown
1 x black long spine sea urchin
2 x red legged hermits

Any plans to add more rock? Other than that it looks to be a great start.

Looks like a good start! I would be worried about your choice of fish though.

In a tank that size, 2 of your clowns will pair off and usually pick the third one to death. You can really only have a single pair of clowns in a tank that size.

After that, the damsels are a very aggressive fish. Keeping that many may prevent you from adding any fish in the future because they would just get picked to death.

If it were me, I would rehome the damsels and one of the clowns and look at some other options for fish.

Thanks for the feedback, rock wise maybe one more piece if I can find one I like! Don't want to overdo it though and lessen water volume.

Hi thanks, I know the damsels are aggressive but I like them lol... Next addition now will be corals and build the reef. The clowns are tank bred and while your advice is generally sound, these 3 have lived together in harmony for over 12 months now. The pair of ocillaris are ok together while the fire clown mingles with all keeping his own or nestling within his small anenome.
