Hello Everyone,
I have a new Brain coral (favites) in my tank and today I noticed that all the polyps "mouths" are open and they are spewing out some red stringy stuff. Hopefully this is some form of spring cleaning? See the pic below.
 
That is most likely zooxanthellae, corals will often regulate the populations of the symbiotic dinoflaggelate in their tissue, it is quite common for new corals, especially going from less intense to more intense lighting.
 
I had the same thing when I added some zoos. they have not done it since. I was hoping that it was some sort of spawn, not realizing that they reproduce by spreading asuxually.. and they do spread fast!
