Looking for a breeding box for a 29gl tank. Is the plastic box or the mesh type better? Thanks

They all work, but personally my favorite are the air driven hang on the back breeder boxes.

I feel it necessary to add that it really depends on which type of fry you are looking at. Many are too small to be kept in by an in tank plastic breeding box so the mesh is necessary. If they are live bearers then it should be fine.
