Yesterday I purchased a fry tank
HALF of it was established water
Plus half new water
I mixed the new sponges in water with established sponges
It has not gone cloudy
Its cleaner than my old tank
The fry are in a murky breeder and the new tank looks a much better enviroment.

Could I release a few and see how they go?

I would say they would be fine. Ideally, if possible, i would put the established sponge in the new filter or at least some of it. I set-up my fry tank a week ago and that is what i did. So far, so good. My thinking is, you only need a small amount of BB, as the bio-load will be tiny. Except of course, unless you go mad with feeding. I use Hikari First Bites and only feed tiny amounts, 4 times a day.
Ps... I used a full sponge(established) in my new internal filter.
