The short answer is that they all look like females until a few things start happening. Assuming that the mother has minimal color (some are highly colored, so this doesn't always work), then pull out the ones that have color on them, it usually starts on the tail first. These are prospective males. The second thing that gives it away is the presence of a gonopodium. They will grow these sometimes long before they get any coloration, so just look under the fish and see if they have one.

I have the same answer, not sure why it wasn't sufficient, lol.

Your 4 week old guppy fry may not be the same size/development as my 4 week old guppy fry. There are a lot of factors that greatly impact the speed of their development.

The gonopodium on a guppy fry looks just like the gonopodium on a guppy adult. Just get a good look at the anal fin on adult females compared to the gonopodium on adult males and you'll begin to recognize the difference.

I'll have a look in my tanks to see if I have any juvenile males to take pics of, I'm not sure if I do though.

Update time:
Blackie had her fry and I think zebra and purple tail had her fry. I have over 30 new fry (I saw the females all swimming after fry.) I have safe places for the fry. (Java moss and fake planets.) And I think there is more in there. Also update time my first batch is 4weeks today so it time to start sexing. I haven't done it yet bc I'm doing PWC.

Sad news one of my 6 inch gold fish died. He has looked sick for over a week.

Thinking about moving fish around to make a all male and all female don't know yet but it will probably happen.

Later tonight I will be putting up my ratio of male to female fry.

How are guppies different than mollies & platies in sexing? Most of my mollies don't show their gonopodium until a minimum of 3 mths... I can start to tell on some because the anal fin begins to separate creating the gonopodium...
Do guppies progress at a higher rate or do colorful tails begin to show at 4 wks also?

I'm sorry about your goldfish.. :-(

It all depends on what you feed them and the water cleanliness. I've fed my fry a high protien diet (powdered freeze dried blood worms 95% and powdered {but slightly larger} tetra gold fish flakes) and one of them is already showing black color! Which is probly a male. Today (day 4) I'm switching them to 75% flakes and 25% FDBW. Because now their mouths are big enough to eat the flakes. I would think guppies have a faster growth rate because I heard that guppies reach adulthood in about 3-4 months while it takes mollies 10mths-a year.

Male guppy fry can be sexually active at 6 weeks that's why you try and sex them. You do this so You get virgin females. You don't want an ugly fry getting all your females pregnant. Female guppy fry can start having drops at around 3 months.

And for color the first 4 weeks fry get dark colors. Blues blacks that stuff. But some guppies are born black body and tail (I have some new born guppies that are black I'm 75%sure they are blackies kids. So ya I can't want to see the males from her.)

I gave up on sexing the fry I can't tell I'm going wait another week and then put in other tanks

My Molly fry from my first batch ever started mating at 6-8 wks and started birthing 10-12 wks... It happened even when they all still looked fan finned...
I do see my 14 wk old fry have partially separated gonopodium ... He's after all the females...
Hmm.. Interesting...
I'm thinking one day I'll get a few guppies,,,

Hey guys! Have you checked out my guppy fry growth chart? I'm keeping a log because I've never seen anyone do it before! Just thought since this was a guppy pregnancy thread that I'd have a follow up with my 11 fry as an example

Here's an update on my once again guppy. She's swollen, beyond swollen, she looks like a giant balloon! And she's only a week along!

I haven't heard anything from anyone on here lately, how's OPs guppy doing? Any pics for us?

Here is my very first and only guppy! She seems quite friendly and has made friends with my female platy...
I can see a slight gravid spot... Dark inside her cavity... A male was in the "female tank" ... So she is obviously pregnant.
I'm excited... No name yet

Ya sorry I have been out of town so I had to leave my fish :'( but when I got back I had 30+ fry waiting for me. Im pretty sure a lot of them are blackies. My fry are new born size and they already are black- Kinda excited I cant wait to see what color they will look.
If you have seen my aquaponics system I put in a fry about 10days ago. I just put in a newborn to see what would happen. The breeder tub/ box has java moss in it and my fry in this past week has grown at about the same rate as my other fry when I rarely feed him( he eats algae java moss and whatever gets sucked up in his tank.) I know I should feed him and stuff but I wanted to see about what kinda growth rate he gets on his own like he would outside in a pond. And so far its about same growth.

Also my aquaponics system is doing great I lift for a vacation and I put in a Feeder block and left. Came back water looked great nothing bad, tested the water and it was Amm-0 Nit-0 Nat-20. So I think it is going great Tested again a week later, so 14 days no water change, Amm-0 Nit-0 Nat-less then 20. I have a goldfish in there that eats and poops a ton and my water is great.

IMO everyone should use Aquaponics filtering. You get free plant to eat- I'm growing basil, but you can grow lettuce very easily along with other plants.

My plan is to later make this system into a fry grow out tank or a female tank with me fry breeder tub.

She looks a lot like one of my girls (skyblue) I like the color ( you will have to have a lot of cover for the fry from her. The fry from her will start off looking very white or creamie in color. This does not help them hide from hungry adults.

There was a black/white male in the tank with her... And who knows who had access to her at breeding facility ...

Well her first batch were clear, not really creamy, so I think they'll be okay. She's due on April 21st, or around then! I should have some grassy stuff by then
