Well, I am pretty sure she is pregnant. If not, she's bloated or something :p I know for a fact this is a female. If she is pregnant, can anyone tell about HOW pregnant? Or when she will be ready to drop the babies? Thanks,
Melanie

This appears to actually be a platy. She appears to have a dark gravid spot so she is probably pretty close you will notice her abdomen will look squared off from the back her behaviour will change she may not eat not move too much have rapid breathing and she will try to hide somewhere in the bottom of the tank i even notice mine to almost appear to be having contractions.

Really? She does hide around the bottom of the tank a lot. I was kinda surprised about how dark her gravid spot is. I haven't seen it that dark on other Mollies or platties (which, by the way, I find very hard to tell the difference between :p) but then again, i have never had platty babies before. :p so the square thing in the belly is like a guppy's I guess. Good to know :) thanks for the info :)

Very welcome and yeah all live bearers kinda go through the same signs when pregnant. So what you look for in a puppy you should look for in both platys and mollies :) good luck

Thanks :) I do have another question though that maybe you could answer? How big are platy babies usually? Bigger than guppy babies, I would guess, but I am wondering if they would still be small enough for the guppies to eat. Sorry if that's kind of a silly question :p also, do you (or anyone else reading this) by any chance have any pictures of what a "squared off" platy belly looks like? My fish is hiding under one of the tank decorations a lot... I am wondering if she might be closer than I thought...

I would actually say platy babies are about the same size or smaller usually than guppy fry they are generally a lot more timid than puppy fry i find

Here is mine, I'm sure she's going to pop tonight or tomorrow.

That is a very pregnant platy! I average a batch of fry a month from my platies, and they are very tiny. I have some fry that are 10 weeks old, and they are still only about a half inch long.

Ok thanks guys :) I will attach some pics of mine... How long do you think for the orange one here? Then there's also this dalmatian Molly that is extremely hard to take a picture of since she moves so much... Don't know if you can really see properly in the pics. Yes, I think I can see where the babies will come out on both the orange one and the one I added pictures of already.

That guppy looks preggers for sure to me. Maybe only a couple weeks though. And if she is mixed with any males, you can be 99% sure that she is:) You're going to have your hands full!

Yep there are three males in there with her and four other females. I have never seen them chasing each other, so I am guessing I got them all when they were already pregnant

I think it is safe to say expect many babies (a new batch every 4ish weeks) for a while. Have fun!

Haha! Thanks :) does anyone think the dalmation Molly or the other orange swordtail (I think it's a swordtail) is pregnant?

I'll save as many as I can out of three or four batches. I have enough room for about forty more fish if you go by the one inch per gallon "rule" (which I don't really, I just change my water frequently) plus my sister is getting a new 20 gallon in a few days, so when that is cycled, she will want some in her tank. I will probably give some away.

FORTY more fish!!. What size tank have you got??

Do any of these look "boxy" to you?
