I have acquired 2 jds a few months ago that I was told were male and female. After researching I have determined both to be female. I was told they are about 3 yrs old. I would like to get a male to breed them but am unsure of whether they will mate and how big of a male to get. Any help would be appreciated.

In terms of size I'd try to get a male who's larger than the female, forcing a male into a existing tank is tough due to either the male or female not accepting the other which can result in one being killed. I'd get a tank divider and keep them separated but still viewable to each other then after a couple of weeks slowly start to remove the divider for brief times to allow them to interact.

If you post some pictures of your fish I will let you know if they are in fact females.

I am having trouble finding anyone in my area with a compared size to mine.

Why are my females lip locking and seem to be doing mating rituals.
