Is there anyway to keep them from breeding besides not putting two together?

Not really. You would need to either chill the water or change the scenery to make it less condusive for spawning but short of a divider or 2 of the same gender, it's not an easy thing to do.
Consider it this way, if your fish are willing and wanting to spawn, you must be doing something right (y)

Just an FYI, after they breed and the fry are free swimming, mov the fry for a day then toss them back. The parents will eat them. I use mine to feed my other cichlids and stuff.

How soon will they breed again after having fry? That's an issue I am having... I want to keep all my fry and don't want the parents to eat em!
