Male platy carrying eggs?

Is this even possible? He looks like he has more eggs than my female. An he is definitely a male as I have seen him mating with my female.

Thoughts?

No, males don't carry eggs. I don't know of any hermaphrodite fish examples in this species, but who knows.

How long has he had that spot?

+1 They are livebearers. Could be pregnant though!

I have only had him a week and he has had it since I've had him and at least a week in the store because I've seen him at my lfs....I just think its strange, I've read about people who have had fish change gender but I don't know if I believe it. Could it just be his stomach?

Hmmmm that is odd because that definitely looks like a gravid spot.

He's not pregnant. He just has more transparent sides so that's either an organ or pigment. Some adult males are pigs and get quite fat.

Livebearers don't change sex AFAIK. Cichlids may change sex in all female tanks, one dominant female may change to male.

Male to female ??? Not that I know of ?

There is a very interesting post on this topic in Swordtails. http://groups.google.com/group/The-F...0f10044f4de33d
