I know it's not supposed to happen that a Molly and a platy can breed but, I only have a female black and silver Molly and a red and black platy in my tank at the moment and they have produced little black fry!

How long have you had the fish?

Maybe it was pregnant when you got them?

Livebearers can store sperm, often for several months. So even if you got the fish a while ago it can still have babies upto a year after being with the male.

I had the Molly for around 7 months and the plat for 3 months.

Ok, thanks, that must be what it is then. I have around 20 odd fry. I wonder if they will all make it!

And if they do make it, some will be male and some female. They will breed also. How big a tank is it? What are your plans for all these mollies?

I will probably give them to other fish lovers I know. When they are big enough. I will keep some and invest in a bigger tank.
