My black molly doesn't seem to be interested in mating with a yellow molly I have. Is this common? I mean he doesn't give the other black mollies chance to eat. He is forever in heat. But said no to Mrs yellow even tho she shows him lots a attention.

Sadly this is actually a natural thing. Some females only allow same color to mate with them, some males only insist on mating with a yellow female, or a pink female. It's kind of hit & miss, but I definitely have selective breeders here too.

Maybe I will have to put one male and one female of different colours in separate aquariums

That would be alright except you really need to watch the males with a single female. We have breeder tanks that we place the mommas in with a male. After they're done, we remove the male and return momma to her own tank. This way the boys don't overbreed the females & stress them out.

Okay. I will look into this. These boys are very active
