Hey, can anyone help me..... I bought 2 female guppies 2 weeks ago at my local pet shop, they were kept with males. This 1 is quite big but hasn't really grown much since i got her. I'm wondering if she's pregnant or just overfed but her gravid spot is a little darker. I'd like to try and keep some fry, so i'd like to know if and when i need to be prepared. Thanks.

To me it looks like her vent is open. See the thread in my signature, it has tons of info on guppys and other livebearer fry

If pregnant, it's in the earlier stages. It is highly possible that she has been inseminated, since guppy's can store sperm for several months to use in the future. I'm going to say she's not pregnant yet personally based upon size and relative size of the gravid spot. If she gets bigger, well then I was wrong and I'm totally cool with that--looks like she'd have pretty fry.

I've taken some more photos. She's acting a little different to last week which was what made me think she might be pregnant. She was quite happy to be around my male and other female but any time they got too close she'd swim to the top of the tank. Now she's extremely jumpy, keeps trying to squeeze into the gap between the glass and my aquarium thermometer at the top of the tank and if not alone, she never gets too close to the other fish anymore. thanks for all your comments.

On the 1st pic, she's the one in the middle.

Comparing her to the size of the other female, it's possible she is pregnant. What are your parameters-ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph? She shouldn't be jumpy, even if pregnant. Livebearers aren't super maternal and aren't too concerned about their potential young, but admittedly try to find a place to safely give birth. Have any pictures of your tank?

She looks pregnant but nowhere near ready look at my females who doesn't have much to go
