pregnant guppy question

hey-

i bought a few guppys for fun a few months ago. two of the females appeared pregnant after a week or so and continued to get bigger week after week.

now i'm at about the two month mark, both are big as a house. what does it to get them drop the babies they are carrying. i would hate to lose either because of the wrong conditions.

btw here are the conditions:
temp:76-78
ammonia:0ppm
nitrite:0ppm
nitrate:0-10ppm
floating moss for the little guys to escape to as well as other plants in the tank

see about scooping the fry into a breeding net or breeding chamber. They are inexpensive and help greatly

My advice: just wait. AFAIK, the gestation period is about 3 months. I'd imagine that they'll be dropping their fry within 3 weeks-a month and a half

I think so, but I'm not positive. I'll go google it and check back

EDIT: Well shoot my horse and call me Sally... It is only 3 weeks! Or atleast, thats what its listed as on the sites I checked... Funny, I've never kept a close count, but it always seemed longer than that with my gups...

Gestation Period

Hi. The gestation period for guppies is 28 to 35 days, depending on the temperature. - Frank/Guppyman®

try feeding live food and a small water change. maybe up the temp 2 degrees.

although it does sound like they are going to blow!! any time so be ready for fry soon. You might just have to wait abit longer and do nothing.

Gestation periods are different for some strains for the most part 28-35 days is correct. although there have been some that waited 45-60 days or had them as soon as 21 days. I just had a female have fry in 21 days I was totally unprepared I think age might play a part in this I am not sure though. I do know that feeding and temp as well as water conditions play a role.
