Strange guppy pregnancy

I literally just got a pair of female guppies home from the store and put them in the tank about a half hour ago. When they were acclimating, neither had a gravid spot or any sign of pregnancy. Now, they are both squaring off and have huge gravid spots. What the heck? Also, the females I bought two weeks ago have been chubby and squared off heavily for at least a week and neither dropped.

If they were ever with a male, then chances are they were pregnant when you bought them. Guppies can also store sperm for varying lengths of time and have multiple broods from a single mating.

Oh no I know that- I've kept and bred guppies for years now. The guppies did not appear pregnant in the bag from the store but an hour in my tank and they seem HEAVILY pregnant. They have been in for about three hours and they suddenly changes from not pregnant to very much so.

Ah I see. Well, that's a bit odd, for sure. Be interesting to see what happens next.
