I was watching one of my tanks from my couch and noticed one of the fish chasing a small yellow critter across the tank. The yellow spec turned out to be red, yellow and black, Platty fry, best I can tell.

It was much larger than I would have expected. Had exact colors as one in the tank. Other fry I have seen don't look anything like mom when born. is it possible this could have been in tank for more than a week, without noticing it? Or platties born more developed than guppies or mollies?

Looks over a week old IMO..
Sometimes livebearers will carry a gene from the 'past'..That is a wagtail platy .
They are pretty much on same pace as guppies and mollies .
