Tiger Barb breeding

When a Tiger Barb drops her eggs, are the eggs fertilized on the bottom or just as they're being dropped?

I was thinking of using "egg crate" on the bottom of the breeding tank in order to save more eggs from being eaten before I get the adults out.

Thankx

I'm not sure, I have heard that if you are breeding cherry barbs, marbles are a good substrate because it prevents the parents from eating the eggs. I would think Tiger Barbs would work on the same concept.

Good day sir, thankyou.

That's what I was saying.
I was wondering if the eggs are fertilized on the bottom of the tank or when the two fish are doing the dirty?

If they are fertilized on the bottom, would the male be able to do this if I were to use the "Egg crate"? The tank I would use has been set up for a long time and already has plants and rocks on the bottom.

After watching this video of cherry barbs spawning, I would think the eggs are fertilized as soon as the female releases them.

After looking at several videos, I think you are absolutely right.
Now I can go on with my plans.
I think I will put down some screen. That way I'll not have to cycle the tank again.

Thankx again Mike

Glad I could help. I actually have 3m/3f cherry barbs in my 29g community, but I do not have a spare tank to attempt to breed them in
