You may (or I suppose may not) notice a change in the way (and number) of emails you receive from AquariumAdvice.com. For some time we have had a few features on the site that were really cool, but at the same time, it was debatable as to whether it was worth it. The first is "Watch this Forum", with this feature you could choose to watch a forum, and everytime there was a new topic posted, or a new reply to any topic in that forum...the site would send you an email notification. As the site has grown, become more active...with more members, this has
led to a serious amount of email. I am subscribed to all the
SW forums and the community forums, I average 150-200 emails from this site alone. Another feature that really hasn't been utilized, but is a real nice feature, is the "Watch this Topic" feature. Here you can choose to subscribe to a thread. If your browsing the forum and notice a topic your really interested in, but don't want to reply...you can click the Watch this Topic link on the thread page and you will receive email notification when there is a new reply, until you visit that topic...that is the only email you will receive about that topic. Once you have visited/read the topic you will receive an email if there is another new reply. We have also added a "View your watched posts" search feature to the forum index, this way, if you have been keep up with a thread, but there have been no replies recently...with a mouse click, they are right there in front of you.
Here are the changes in the email.
If you are "watching a
forum" you will receive an email, whenever there is a new topic started in that forum, you will not receive notification of replies simply because you are watching the forum.
If you are watching (or have replied to) a topic, you will receive email notification of the first new reply, until you actually visit the site and that specific topic, until then, you only get one email per watched topic. Once the topic is visited...you will begin receiving notification again, once, until you visit the topic in question.
We feel this will make the Watched forum a much more popular feature, and we wanted to let you know about the watched topic. If you have any questions, please feel free to post/comment in this thread, or the Site Help/Feedback Forum.
