Hey all
I want a great book on SA/
CA
cichlids. I would appreciate any recommendations. The ones I have are outdated...mid 80's

Are you looking for a book thats a species picture book or are you looking for an informational book on Cichlid behavior?

If possible both. Species photo and care profile. If not, one of each. There's always room for more than one book

The Dr. Axelrod Atlas is the ultimate fish picturebook. Expensive, but the most comprehensive guide to freshwater fish. There is some basically information via icons about the size and care requirements, but don't expect it to be very detailed per fish.
Unfortunately paper-based literature on fish is going to be out of date in this quickly-evolving hobby.

Axelrods book is pretty nice coffee table display but overall basiclly worthless for what it's intended for. 5x5 is correct about books, names and genus change somewhat frequently becoming obsolete quicky. I've never seen a very detailed book with regards to care and behavior, I'd use the Internet and use your own judgment on their information.

Thanks for your input guys
I have Axelrods's Atlas but it was published in 85. Yeah, I see exactly what you mean. Almost outdated the day after hitting the shelves. I just enjoy a good book.
