Well, I originally thought I bought a cupid cichlid, but it appears it's actually a bandit cichlid (guinacara sp.). I figured i'd come to you guys first before the rest of the forum, especially after HUKIT was discussing cupids on a thread

That's what I thought :/ Not sure if I'm happy or not about that, I do love the little guy, but i was sold 2 of them, and the other is getting beaten up, i'm reading that they are aggressive towards conspecifics and am sure observing it! Guess one will have to go back!

Well so what happened with the new fish?

I ended up keeping both for the time being, they are getting along well now, minus the occasional chase here and there, but no more fin nipping! The one that was getting bullied is actually deformed, has a short body and a bent spine right before the tail, I felt bad for him/her and was given it for free with the first Guianacara. These guys have a TON of personality to them! Very lively and always the first to beg for food
