Found wigglers today and they were moved from one leaf to another the 1st one had some old eggs - not viable and they were getting funky.

The problem was that the momma fish and her hoping, sister fish were to scheduled to go to a new home, since maybe 5-6 weeks back. Had no clue she would have wigglers.

Figured out a way to cut off the leaf from the Anubias and grab the leaf, only loose half the babies by them falling off and keep from getting bit by mom and dad.

Mom and Spike the other Angel hoping female, went to a new home, along with the wigglers.

I have about 20 wigglers still on another leaf, which I guess the parents saved and restuck to the leaf. In the container after it got to it's new home there were a couple swimmers with the egg sacs. He has baby brine shrimp for some Rainbow and Cory babies so I am hopeful some will survive. If not there will likely be more to come.

The poppa fish is a little rattled with his mate gone, and he absolutely charges the front of the tank when I come up to it, so I know he knows I was complicit in his lady's disappearance...., and kidnapped the other little ones :eek:

There is a slight amount of guilt, but the babies would have been fish food in just another couple days anyhow. Might try and save a few and throw them into the other tank just in case they could make it. Then figure out the baby Brine Shrimp thing with the eggs I have somewhere!

The departure of the other two fish open up some space and I am happy they won't be fighting so much after the left over babies get moved to the other tank.

Found another dead Cory cat, the little ones, Metae.

Took a couple pics.

Added water from evaporation to 3 FW tanks and the SW also.

I bought some Endler guppies today. I planned to get six females and three males but they were short on females so I just picked up two males and a female. I added them to my Kuhli loach tank. The kuhli are fun when they're visible but they hide a lot. The LFS is ordering more this week but these ones will need to go through quarantine. Three three I bought v today had been in their tank for a few weeks already and ere healthy so I didn't isolate them.

I upgraded my lighting for my favourite planted tank last week. I went from having a 21 watt t5 & a t8 over the tank to the 21w t5 with the new dual 54w t5 lights. So far with the tank I've mostly avoided using CO2 and haven't added ferts often. I've started experimenting with both in an attempt to turn all the plants that will become red or pink. I'm starting to see plenty of pearling in plants that have never displayed pearling before. I'm seeing some colour changes in the tips of some plants already. Hopefully it has the added benefit of allowing me to successfully grow foreground plants.

Did the weekly 20% water change, still pleased I haven't had a major algae outbreak. Plants have done so well, I need to do a trimming. Guess it's time to set up a new tank to relocate the clippings. :)

I'm gonna do a tank by tank update real quick since I haven't been on lately. Sorry for your losses everyone and I'm jealous of all you with amazing looking planted or reef tanks, my tanks are slowly slowly coming along.

10g shrimp tank: I received a total of 24 rcs in the mail a few weeks ago over two shipments. I sold a lot of the second shipment since it had only two that were somewhat colored that I kept so I was left with 15 shrimp. Both of my favorite shrimp died (they had purple coloration on them) but I've had no losses lately and they are doing well, the tank is slowly growing back in after a huge plant die out a few months ago so what I was able to save was very little and it's taking its time to grow back in.

38g planted: this is tied with my shrimp tank as favorite tank. I have very few fish in the tank, an electric blue acara, a pair of pearl gourami, two black kuhli loaches, and an upside down cat. This tank is kinda left to grow, I don't plan on trimming anything as I'm aiming for a wild look. The majority of the plants are/will be water lilies since I love the colors.

55g community: this is my unlucky tank. I had set it up with discus but lost half of them so ended up selling the remaining 3, next I had a handfed, trained African butterfly fish who jumped, so I replaced him but the new one ate every fish he could catch and he was sold when he decided to go after the betta. Now I have 18 neons (I had 20 but butterflyfish ate 2), 10 black neons, 3 otos (I had 6, one got a fungal infection and the other two went missing), a twig cat, a whiptail cat, and a pair of honey gourami. I also had a pair of apistogramma trifasciata but the male got dropsy and the female began to attack the gourami so I sold her after the male died. I am trying to get the plants to grow but have had very little luck. They are healthy, they just don't grow. I had a major pond snail problem but once I got zebra loaches they decimated the pond snail population.

55g lake tanganyika tank: this tank has had the largest change. I sold all the cichlids and fish except for the pleco and the 5-barred cichlid and replaced them with some neolamprologus similis, a julidochromis transcriptus, and a massive featherfin catfish. I almost had to put the catfish down at first bc he got severe ich and fin rot. He has been blind in one eye bc of it for almost a month but is recovering his sight, his fins were destroyed especially his back dorsal fin but have all grown back except his back dorsal, and he has scars all over his body.

Did the weekly 20% water change, plus filter maintenance. I was amazed at the number of snails in the two filters. :eek:

Tossed the expired carbon in the AC 50 and added a 100ml bag of Purigen, which I've been wanting to try out. :cool:

Trimmed the humongous runner one of my e. tenellus plants put out and replanted three or four of the best in the foreground. Next week I'll get the runner from the other mother plant. I may wind up with a "carpet" yet.

Sadly had to throw away some good cardamine lyrata clippings, since I had no place to put them. :ermm:

Added Nualgi to the tank to see how it controls algae (the driftwood is getting patches of green hair algae). Several vloggers on Youtube have reported good results with it. :brows:

Made sure the young platy was okay. He's fine and seems to be growing.

Tomorrow: Neon Tetra shopping! :dance:

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

In the middle of a 50% PWC on my 55g. I'm trying out Nilocg's Thrive all in one liquid fert. I am adding it 3x weekly. I am seeing some improvement in plants already. My Limnophilia aromatica (sp?) is sending out a side shoot.

I'm hoping to do PWCs on my 10g and my 5.5g
I've been gone off and on for almost 3 months. Glad fish are thriving. I stop home every 2-3 days.

I would prefer the Ramshorns any day of the week! :lol:

Showed off the tanks to a friend and fed early to get all the fish to come out.

Did a water change on the bucket which holds a decor rooted tree stump with a Java Fern growing on it. If I don't get it a new home soon it will probably die - all the way. I keep losing leaves from it. Have no place for or intention of using it and it is slowly having a terribly sad time in a bucket with nearly no light. I think I might take it to the Aquarium Club meeting to get it a home. :bulb:

Admired my Clown Loach and how he is growing and reminded myself he still needs a few friends. Maybe looking for a few lfs sales this weekend.

shellyx 05-28-2016 11:12 AM

Pwc on my shrimp tank, picked up the poo with a turkey baster again! Such a lot of baby shrimp at the moment so excited :D then just vacuumed out the water. Added a few IAL really like the tannins in the water.
Going to start making up the metro for my boraras, with they're food soon, I hope this works.
All fine in my elephant nose tank could do with trimming back my plant's and removing some of the Amazon frogbit, it's nearly taking over the tank! :)

I bought 3 pink ramshorn snails. They were BEAUTIFUL. But within a few months I had to tear down the tank and boil or salt everything to get rid of them. There were 1000+ and they were eating the mystery snails shells on the live snails. I kept a few but they are now in my outdoor tank I use for plant cuttings. The cold and lack of abundant food keeps the population from exploding.

Did the weekly 20% water change on the 20-long and trimmed the cardamine lyrata, which is growing like a weed and crowding out neighboring plants. :eek2:

The platy fry is getting bigger and is coming out into the open more, and I'm happy to report that, a week after buying new neons from a different store, I haven't had a single death. I think I can say the problem with the last batch was Petco, and not me. :dance:

I must be loco, I am thinking of putting up my pond again. Our Aquarium Society meeting topic is about ponds this week too:facepalm::fish1: Still just thinking about it - missing my pond...

Getting psyched up to rescape my 12G Edge and nearly decided to move the Tangerine Tigers in there and buy a new school of Chili Rasboras. I think there are just 2 left of the Phoenix Rasboras (sold as Chilis but NOT!!!). They seem to live about 3 years.

Also maybe get enough energy to clean out the 46G QT tomorrow. Maybe...

EDIT!!! Got the 46G tank cleaned out. It is scrubbed out but not rinsed, now outside ready for the rinsing. All empty, discarded all the rocks (about 20lbs Eco complete) and filter media (new will need to be ordered).

Lesson learned do NOT use a tank for a med treatment if you want to really ever use it again for anything like inverts or SW anything critterwise other than fish.

Planning to use Cuprisorb on the tank. I saved a little water to do a test on the copper levels and will run Cuprisorb for awhile and check levels again.

I need to get rid of my purple pseudochromis, he has become an absolute tyrant and I'm tired of seeing nipped fins on the other fish. Problem is in order to get him I'm gonna have to take everything out of the tank.....:(

so I think today I will contemplate it some more and continue to procrastinate. :whistle:

They make traps just for tough fish like that. Might be a better option than a tear down.

Early clean on my shrimp tank, thought I'd do extra since my fish aren't great at the moment. Trimmed back plant's, I can actually see through them! Rinsed filter's, boy were they filthy. And found loads of baby shrimpies Yay! at last.

Rinsed the tank I left outside last night.

Since it is outside time of year, I looked at my cache of left over stuff mess in the back corner of the yard in the hiding stuff corner, just slightly out of public view and realized I have a whole bunch of used unneeded substrate, what happens when you go from 13 tanks down to 3 plus QT (no substrate) and 4 water plant bowls (which don't need hardly any) There were buckets and tubs and a couple bags of misc stuff. Out of sight out of mind especially in previous winter time!

Dumped out a few buckets and containers and combined and know that I can get rid of a big bunch of it. There are misc mini internal filters, my pond pumps and tubing and misc!!!!!!! Only got to about a third of the mess but did dump out some buckets and containers of mosquito spawning liquid, lol. Definitely don't need more of those!

Added trace minerals to the SW tank. Hoping to get the bottom into the low iron repair tank by next week. Keep running out of time to get to the glass shop.

Trying to decide if I should scrape the front of the SW tank or let the snail keep working on it?!?! hmmmm...

EDIT: Did pwc on Tangerine Tiger Shrimp tank, a 25% and a 33% - always kick up gunk food particles, still over feeding ugh.

Did 3+G pwc on the 12G Edge and added 5G water to the 72G.

Add water to the SW from evap. will do pwc tomorrow of about .5-1G.

OOOh can't wait for pics!!! Congrats on the new additions!

Already spent some time this morning working on tank stuff.

Moved the AquaFarm plant container outside to the shady area to get some better stronger shady light. Everything in that plant tank looks great including the Red Ramshorns, and I have a little cloud of algae in a Brandy snifter "bowl" and I think there were a few mts ended up in there as well and I had just been saving it for if I needed it for something and a cylinder vase with about a gallon volume with some plants and algae that had been remove from the bucket from last summer that lived outside and ended up with it being in the sun for a month I didn't even notice - anyway all went outside under the shady deck for the summer.

And as nicely as the Aquafarm tank is, is as bad af the bucket of plants I removed from the tank I shut down before, and the forgotton bucket of plants pretty much was dead. There were a few little things which was fine like the Moss Balls and Nana Anubias and a Micro Anubias , tiny baby and a Dwarf Val - only one and a half dead Elodia -2 parts of stems maybe 10" each.

The giant cloud of Subwassertang (used to be beautiful and bright green when it was growing in the tank) was melted into a million particles some brownish but half with a hint of green. So I left those mostly in the water and put that into a opaque bucket which my plants last year really liked outside under the tree next to the fence. Will either have a hundred new plants of some great fertilizer to water the plants with, lol.

So on the negative, the Aquarium society meeting on ponds was last month, but on the positive is that it is on micro /live foods and should be really interesting, and these vases are the perfect spot to raise something like Daphnia.

shelly, I'm glad to hear your tank is doing better!!! I can't wait to see pictures of the new additions, too!

Autumnsky 06-04-2016 04:56 AM

shellyx - !!! :) Beautiful coloring!
~~~
Here goes:
Went to the CAS meeting. Had a really fun time. Learned all about the different types of micro foods for the fish. Narrowly missed getting a sample of some that were provided as door prizes. BUT got some other stuff.
Really excited today that I found a local direct source for all kinds of Bucephalandra. More on that a little later when I find out which kinds and how many I will be getting in about 2 1/2 weeks. But SUPER excited.
Back to the mini auction.
Was able to get 2 trios - of "Hawaiian" & Blue Wag Platy. Needed something for the top of the tank. Pics in a day or 2. They are in a temporary bucket right now.
Then got something kinda interesting from a breeder/business who supports the Club -donated Xiphophorus Helleri Rio Otapa babies. 5 fish fry and 4 shrimp and a tiny newborn fry shrimp Pretty dark blue kinda like shellyx's one pretty blue with a couple eggs and 3 clearish.
Sooo I didn't plan on new shrimp. Took a cylinder vase about a gallon as a probably temporary container and got all the fish and shrimp acclimated to their containers.
Baby fish temporary in the Tangerine Tiger shrimp tank. I bet the little buggers would eat the shrimp.
Got the 46G QT bowfront rinsed and finished putting back on stand. Will fill it tomorrow and add the Platy trios.
Also my friend brought me about 20 Red Ramshorn snails all with nice shells and some oyster shell grit to help harden the water. Snails were disributed into the tanks.
Enjoyed some fun conversations and got to see a Varigated Shark - stunning and exceptional orange and black specimen and a ~15" Black Shark.
Also have been looking for a couple baby Butterfly Koi. Checked with a local source but no luck there.
Had been a little lazy with the maintenance in my 700 ltr lately, was down to doin just 1 pwc per week and only gravel vac every 2nd because the flow in my vac was so slow, so I decided to 'tim the tool man' the hell out of it and took it from the standard 10mm hose Attachment 287174 to a 17mm hose Attachment 287175 and because my dw floats and is a decent size I have a little trouble getting to a lot of spots so I decided to remove is and give it a hose off too Attachment 287176 ( thing is so heavy ) I then took my Anubias out and scrubbed the leaves, rinsed the internal sponge filters and pre filter on the canister, scraped the back glass for the first time since starting the tank, removed a few less than healthy plants then did a 190 ltr gravel vac Attachment 287177 ( so much quicker now ) then the reconstruction began Attachment 287178 took about 2.5 hours, but worth it
Autumnsky 06-04-2016 05:02 PM
Checked the new additions and seems all is well. I took out the heater from the bucket of Platy because it was a little too warm- it was a big heater. They don't really need that much heat.
Got my water feature slate fountain cleaned, filled and ready to plug in.
EDIT addition:
Water feature outside plugged in and works great!
Moved the heater to the opposite side of the 12G Edge tank, hubby mentioned the clamp light sitting on top of the tank and if it was needing a new light.
Told him I had it in the closet and just hadn't got around to putting it up. Then got a husband look of disapproval of the clamp light sitting on top if the tank could look stock. SOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Got it out and switched it over just took a couple minutes - can't believe I didn't get that done months ago! Took longer to mop up the water I spilled over the sides from plunging my hand into the tank with out removing some water first :headbang:
Best thing was that I bought a on/off switch and if you know, the Edge tank requires removal of the lid any time you want to turn the light on or off pain in the bum. Now it is located easily to go on or off with out removing the lid!!!
Yipeee!
Then adjusted the Mini Anubias on the DW spike which covers the intake and wow does it look nice! Just need to move the Cuddle bone out from the front that flipped out of its corner to hide in back again. Pics tomorrow or the next day!
Busy, busy Autumn! Thanks for the compliment, really enjoy watching them.
50 % clean on my elephant nose tank. Lot's off trimming on my plant's, removed loads of floating frogbit again.
Early clean on the boraras tank, been doing extra since they've not been well. Trimmed plant's, rinsed filter's and put both filter's together so the spray bars are touching ( filter feeders enjoying the extra flow ) I'm enjoying watching the boraras, the alpha male keeps chasing the other's away from the moss, it's funny considering he's on only a cm long!
Thanks shellyx - Glad to hear your fish are acting like fish instead of sickly in a corner. :cool:
Did a 1G pwc on the fish in a bucket fed the night before. Moving them tomorrow.
Thought it was a goner but found there a was still a 3rd in the group of nano Rasboras. Hides well in the ferns and other plants.
The tank has a clear background and am wondering if that inhibits them. The Merah aka Phoenix Rasbora kinda hangs out with the 2 Green Kubotai.
The 2 Boraras uropthalmoides aka Exclamation Point Rasbora hide like there is a shark on the loose.
Think I might try a bit of frosted window film on the back panel and see if that helps their comfort level.
So frustrated that I can't seem to get the fish I am looking for at the lfs that are kinda near me (45 - 60 min.)
If I can find the little fish I am looking for far away, will get them to add to their groups. Already called the "local" ones for this week. Will make a few phone calls for this weeks shipments all over the area. Usually Wed-Thurs arrivals.
Hope to get the 2 trios in the QT tank Monday.
Would prefer if I can get the QT done (kinda all at once) in the next few weeks and be done for awhile.
Found a cool piece of DW in the river. Need to clean it. Also got a small clump of some plant I can't recall atm, the name I think it is.
Also want to sneak over to a ditch that has dwarf cat tails and pluck up a clump of them for the outdoor water container. Should be getting the Blue Endlers for that very soon.
Thinking I should catch the 5 baby Swords and put them with the Platy trios for the QT 3 -4 weeks, and then they should all be big enough to go into the 72G.
As a side note, there have been NO new eggs laid in the 72G by an Angel fish, so maybe I have 2 males now. Hoping so.
Carriwin 06-06-2016 01:04 PM
So, I'll be replacing evaporated water out of my 38g tank, because it's missing a lid, and have a huge evaporation problem... so, we'll see what I can do to fix that problem. I have not seen where I can just buy the lid, so I'm going to figure out something creative I'm sure. :D Maybe I'll look at glass lids. We'll see.
I'm just working on maintaining my status quo with what I have going on at present. Not really making any changes. However, I am getting the "i want to give my convict fish a buddy" bug... though I know it would be an exercise in futility.
cgthebeast 06-06-2016 02:15 PM
Painted the new top for my 75g. Now I just have to install the screen work and then I can finally place my order on live aquaria. (Darn fire fish and their crazy jumping habits.) also cleaned out the sump
Autumnsky 06-07-2016 02:18 AM
Today, was busy day!
Went to a special plant nursery found a couple plants I can use for the pond container, found some very small pond plant containers like pint and 3 inches at the ReStore - new never used, as the ones at the nursery were for very large plants and ponds. Will be using a bag of organic Miracle Gro I got maybe 2 years ago and chickened out of the dirted tank, :rolleyes:
Found a Butterfly Koi white with a orange-y yellow under tone.
Filled the qt tank - spent a little time to get the tank at the right temp. Adding the Play trios and the Koi at the lower Temps say 74F. Good for both.
Autumnsky 06-08-2016 10:41 PM
Fun find tonight...A Western Painted Turtle in my yard, then went over to the area near the wildlife pond a pool of water contained cool snails half of them with a cool stripe. Will try and load it so you can see, and a million worms in the mud!!! Brought a number of the snails over to my outdoor AquaFarm tank. Pretty fun and most beautiful.
Decided to put up my pond again. Will need to find a different filter than the trash can one I made for it before - probably. Maybe I will be able to hide it.
Deciding on whether or not to get a different shape, or make it a rectangle. It will be going under the stairs area of a 2 story deck, so I might be able to figure out if I can dig out and put it in all the way or partly inground and use a liner. Maybe this year I will just use my little preformed pond and plan for this bigger build next spring. Sounds like less work now. :)
shellyx 06-11-2016 07:05 PM
Ooh a pond! Sounds good Autumn ;)
Cleaned my elephant nose tank, can't believe how big he's grown.
Pwc on my shrimp tank, lost 4 babies and 3 adults which I think has been down to the heat wave we've had.
Hubby bought me some more boraras 22 of them. They're in QT at the moment, thinking 2 week's. They all look really healthy I hope they stay that way! Can't wait to add them in with my other guy's.
Fed live baby brine shrimp to the boraras who loved hunting for them and live bloodworm for Gonzo. Think that's it!
Alan79 06-12-2016 07:37 AM
A pond would be great. Having one built in under the deck would be nice too. It's something I will hold off on till I own a house though.
So I found a bargain today. I've waited a fortnight for this to eventuate. But I picked up a coralpower quad t5 light and a fluval 305 filter for $300. For now the filter is too big for any running tank but means I'm halfway to filtering a tank I'm keen to get running. I'll have to buy another filter and build a stand. But I'm about ready to set up my 4x2x2 foot tank. I've waited a long time to set it up.
The light was the real prize though. I wish I had held off on buying a dual t5 last month. I'll only have to replace two bulbs. I'll swap the two from the dual t5 and maybe aim to add 1/4 bulbs to offer the plants some different light colours. The fixture has two switches so I can adjust the light intensity. I'm really happy with it.
I added some alternanthera reineckii mini last night to my 3foot tank. No signs of change yet but it was an emerced growth pack from aquarium industries. They're developing a good range of plants lately. I've had trouble finding a lot of plants I wanted but they've surprised me lately with some nice additions to their range. I might work on getting more CO2 injections in my 3 foot tank and risk the algae fight by running the tank at high light.
One of my goals has been to get all the plants that will show reds or pink to colour up. I've seen good signs of that with the dual t5, the quad t5 should provide plenty of light. It's a little scary to think of how quickly the algae can take hold though.
I'm expecting my endler guppy to drop some young soon. My LFS has been trying to order me more for three weeks but they're not available. The plan is to get a small breeding colony started. Sadly I only bought the three available and one died. I'm down to a male and a female. Hopefully I see some young soon. Guppies are my last resort for breeding a vertebrate. I tried breeding bn plecos but Frank and Barry weren't as keen to breed as id hoped before betty became Barry.
Autumnsky 06-12-2016 02:39 PM
Well did bring the plastic pond to the spot under the deck and not so pretty sitting on top and not in the ground as it was designed for.
Thought about the rectangle in ground with a pond liner, and saw some nice material for putting around the edges called rock on a roll and it seems like a splendid solution to the ugly black liner and endless stones to secure and take up space around the edges, as I have small amount of space for plants as it is in the confined area.
Doing 50% pwc on the 72G and the 46G today. 20% on SW nano. Need to order more Prime!
EDIT: Did the Tangerine Tiger tank substrate clean and WOW I can't believe what a mess that was, just clearing up now and probably 7-8G water change with all the cleaning.
Barliman 06-13-2016 12:07 AM
Platys! Platys everywhere, Mr. Rico!!
So, I did the usual 20% water change today, plus a major plant-trimming. While working on the tank, I saw a tiny platy fry swimming among the Cardamine Lyrata! This guy was tiny, no more than 2mm, so he (or she) must only be a day or two old. Smart little fellow, he's hiding among the plants where the tetras can't get him.
I trimmed back the cardamine and my ludwigia repens, which was throwing the whole right end of my tank into shade. It was frustrating to throw away the trimmings; I wish I knew another aquarist in the area. Why does West LA have no aquarium club? :soap:
I added four more neons (bought at Nature Aquarium in Santa Monica), bringing my school to 11. It's really made a difference with them, as I noticed them schooling more tightly. So pretty in the tank.
I also bought five amano shrimp. Naturally, being aquatic bugs, they hide a lot and I've never seen all five out at once. It was funny to see one of the platys try to "investigate" a shrimp ("Can I eat you?"), and the shrimp go into "Back off, Jack!" mode. :rofl:
shellyx 06-13-2016 11:21 AM
Did an extra clean on my boraras tank, got up this morning to a dead bamboo shrimp :( don't know why my other 3 are fine. Soo sad.
Fed live bloodworm to my elephant nose he's been out all day hunting for them! At least someone is happy!
Well, I took the plunge and opted to try planty things in my 10g. I figured that was fairly safe as it isn't that big. :D My other tanks shall remain silk/plastic as that's usually best for convicts and others. Although, my angels would probably enjoy it, but they got sand instead. :D
Here's the 10g:
https://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums...cture70296.jpg
I filled up my 38g tank as the evaporation rate is still ridiculous, however, I did notice the convict, has happily moved the sand out from under his log and now peeks at me from the little side hole to watch the goings on in my living room. I'll have to post pictures of this later. :D
The little Koi I just got took a turn for the worse, and died last night. It was very thin, it didn't want to eat. Water parameters were and are fine. Did realize I didn't put in the Cuprasorb into the filter. When I cleaned off the counter, there it was sitting under a bag of fish food.
Thank you. Sorry to hear about your Bamboo shrimp. Was it older?
Well I called one of the not so local lfs, and they actually have a fish I have been trying to get!!! The Sundadanio Axlerodi Blue Neon!!! They will hold them for me until Friday. A little more expensive than I was wanting to pay, but I haven't been able to find them anywhere else around here for sure.
They are also holding for me 4 Habrosus Cories. They are out of Chili Rasbora til maybe next week. Those are going to be less $ than I was expecting from them, so maybe will balance out and not pay shipping. I will try to order the last little fish I was wanting and maybe they will all come in together and I won't need to worry about a QT.
So far, so good! The barbs like the anubias nana, and I don't think my 'mystery plants' are going to last... one bit the dust already.
I'm having issues deciding what decor i'm going to put in the tank. I think everyone's a little squeamish atm cause there isn't very many places to hide.
I'm thinking I may end up going with a cave-like thing, or something. I've been looking into driftwood,... not a whole lot around here. I could pick it up from the outside, but I'd definitely have to boil it first... never know what's out there.... :hide:
I'm open to suggestions though!
Petco often has small pieces of mopani, which is a pretty two-color piece of wood that's dense enough to sink without soaking. Just be aware that it needs a *lot* of boiling to get the tannins out. Fix some anubias nana to it, and Patriot will have a nice place to rest.
Oh, and dwarf sagittaria is a good plant for a small tank, too, as well as crypts.
Update: it looks like you have cryptocorynes already in your tank. If that's what died on you, don't worry: almost all crypts "melt" on introduction to a new tank, than come back strong in a week or two.
shellyx 06-15-2016 11:09 AM
My lfs finally has been able to find me more Endlers. I've been waiting quite a while for them to get more in stock. I'll grab another 6 to bring my collection up to 8. Hopefully the pregnant female gives birth soon. I should do a escape on their tank soon. I've still got an unspecified number of Kuhli loaches in the tank with them. I'd love to know how many I have left from the 12 I had. I rarely see them these days so its hard to make a guess when I don't get to see their markings.
It seems like I've found the nutrient balance in my favourite tank after about a month of fiddling. It's my first tank with high light so I'm trying some more difficult plants. A couple of weeks back I was feeling sad about the emergence of green hair algae. I gave it a peroxide spot treatment and increased the CO2 supplements. Problem gone. I still have a bit of black beard algae but its only a minor irritant. Maybe six leaves need to be cut out to remove it.
I spent about 40 minutes yesterday doing some trimming in 3/6 played tanks. My betta tank and large community tank still need trimming but I ran out of enthusiasm since the three I trimmed were pretty messy after some neglect. Last tank is mostly crypts so its low maintenance.
Autumnsky 06-16-2016 10:27 PM
My QT tank with the 6 Platy (2 trios) aren't doing very well. Hiding and fins are a bit clamped doing another pwc on them. They aren't really eating either. I am feeling like it is the QT tank of death right now. I hesitate to add any new items to the tank because I don't want any contamination on anything else from the previous copper treatment. Since most of my stuff involves inverts. I am hoping the Cuprisorb is doing its magic and binding anything copper that is left.
Needing to pick up my new fish additions tomorrow providing the Sundadanio Axlerodi Neon Blue actually came in today. Will check in the morning before making an hour each way drive. Though if they aren't there, I will likely go to the other not so lfs and get about 10-20 Cardinals depending on the prices. Thats an additional half hour dive further away! Irksome. Maybe paying online shipping fees makes some sense after all save time and gas money, lol!
What Did You do With Your Tank Today?
That must really suck, I have 16 lfs ( that I know of ) within 20 minutes drive of my house, it's a pity that the 1 that sells the best live food is half an hour drive each way
Same here - worth the extra 15 minutes travel but would be nice to have a better local selection.
Been thinking bout co2 lately and after seeing how much a semi decent setup with a solenoid costs, I figured I'd jump on YouTube and see what Joey had to say about it, fortunately I had everything I needed in the tank cupboard, Attachment 287393
I didn't want to do a diy diffuser so I went and bought 1, all up cost me $15, hell of a lot better than $500, bit more effort involved but what's an extra 20 minutes a week
DW reminds me of Loch Ness "monster" pics. very nice.
As for the lfs, missed going to any due to auto issues taking a priority. I will try and run to the one which WAS holding my fish for me unknown if they are available now...day late.
Was less than a mile away from the not so lfs that has the Cardinals, and had to miss it as I was running all over the countryside searching for the needed items for the vehicle and it was TOO hot to have the fish in the car. (nearly 13 hour project just for that)
Before the 13 hour project, I removed the Platy - 4 fish which were remaining, 2 died, 2 of the Hawaii ones, one left and the 3 Blue Wag trio. One looked unwell. Very sad about them. Trying to get them to eat some of the medicated flake food.
Need to online order the 2 liter bottle of Prime as I threaten to do every time I have to run to the big box store to get some more. Evidently I use too much and go through it pretty quickly. Even with the drip out lid I swapped from a new travel sized bottle made for lotion or shampoo (dollar store).... oh well.
Also need some ferts. After the Glut discussion about possibly being hazardous to ones health I will skip that for now.
Still toying with the idea of new substrate probably a lite ball shaped shrimp type substrate, great for the Dwarf Cories. They have fun rooting around in the ones in the shrimp tank. The little balls are easy for them to move around and since they are round should not harm them.
Lots of thinking.
Yesterday:
20g water change, general housekeeping & some rearranging in the 75g
Added 5 Green Chromis to the 75g to distract the Damsel (it's working like a charm!)
Today, I plan to do a 5g change & housekeeping in the 29g
Spent about an hour looking at all the critters at the not so lfs in Boulder after picking my fish.
Good part is I am first one in line for the Chili Rasboras and bad part was that after capturing my "on hold" Sundadanio Axlerodi Neon Blue Rasboras they were obviously not healthy. The manager came and informed me that he would rather I didn't take them home as they appeared to not be well.
So I didn't get those!!!!!!! After waiting a year and a half what difference is a couple more weeks. 2 weeks til the new shipment comes.
I did get three more Green Kubotai Rasboras to go with the 2 I already had. They are pretty pale still compared to mine. This morning they are "schooling" together.
Also picked up 6 instead of 4 on hold of the Dwarf Cories Habrosus. They got busy immediately after acclimation scouring the tank and saying "hi" to the other 3. Didn't see any dead this morning so far so good!
Funny..... that hubby says he would like to see the 72G out of the corner and that the fact it is relegated to the corner is like punishment of a child sent to the corner and that is is so "beautiful and there are interesting things going on in the tank to see and I'm not even a fish person" that it seems like a crime to have it back there! Wow - I didn't see that one coming, lol.
So sometime this week will need to move the cabinet and 2 12G nano tanks to make room to breezily just slide the giant ~ 1000 pound tank and stand 40 feet across the family room to the opposite wall by my self...:blink: This means now will move the 2 12G - somewhere else.
Never a dull moment.
