Convict2161 03-10-2012 11:33 PM

Just did water changes on both tanks today. Turned up the radio and went to town! I love doing them and I love looking at them when I'm all done. Cleaned filters, pads, changed filter floss etc... Did it all today and had fun all the while :)

Well, I will post my history, and what I paid, when I start the build thread. I paid a quarter of what I was willing to pay for a tank half this size. It truly is a dream tank for me. As I have wanted one for a very long time.

Bearchumjs 03-10-2012 11:35 PM

Tested for nitrites and they were 0! Finally!! I did nothing else.

Bubbles0oO 03-10-2012 11:38 PM

well today i did mostly yardwork, BUT i did

move my fry over to my 10 g

feed

and consider rehoming a plant in my tank, my tank is too short for the way this plant is growing, any ideas? i really dont wanna have to trim it, i will but it so pretty, ( would post pic but its WAY past bed time for my fish :D )

George9 03-10-2012 11:41 PM

I did a lot today :) did a 50% pwc, cleaned the media in the canister, and did the monthly check/cleaning on the rest of the filter. Started dry ferts today, and added 4 kuhli loaches.

i'm pretty sure they need a 20-30 gallon minimum, they get around 4 inches long. i only moved him to my 10 because its the only one where he will be dominant and not picked on. when he's big enough to hold his own against the black skirts he's going back to my 55

Malawi Freak 03-11-2012 10:27 AM

Oh not I did a lot today. Did a 90% pwc on my 125 not by choice but because someone was supposed to trade some rock for my mainganos which led to me draining the water down and pulling out every single rock. Gave me a good reason though to really clean the tank. (what really got me was the guy started ignoring all my emails when I finally bagged the male female ratio he wanted)

Added more plants to the 125, gave my saulosi tank a little love by staring at it for about a half hour and then set up a peacock tank. For now they are just in a 10g tank cause they are all tiny and I have a 30 breeder cycling.

Rearranged the tank a little.

senemedar 03-11-2012 05:34 PM

Did another big water change again. Looks like we're back into a High Nitrates War :/

smomus 03-11-2012 05:46 PM

Feed them peas after a fasting day and they went CRAZY! Lol! After I did a 20ish% wc then tried to get pix of them...most were too fast lol did get this tho!

10 gallon
i put in more fry and added a cucumber slice for teh snails

16 gallon
did a 75-80% PWC and am starting to see an end to this algea war!

55 gallon
moved my sword into the tank from my 16 ( she seems quite happy to be with others like her)
saw dozens of fry be born, eaten, hide, and be saved ( really cute, my oldest fry pepper likes to hang around the younger fry and scare off the bigger fish )

Beta tank
changed out water, fed him, thought of a name for him

Worked on all three of my tank complete overhauls on two. On my 55g tropical community removed everything and cleaned off all the salvageable plants and added in my apisto orange flash pair. Did a 80% pwc with the mess I made in it. In my 20g long I did a 100% water change and added a bag of floramax and began to replant it and set up the co2 system. Added my apisto double red pair only in this tank. Then in my 10g shrimp/betta tank I did a qwik pwc and rearranged their slate hideout. Waiting on the plants to add to this one next week. All in all a productive day. Next week my new plants also arrive for the 55 so look forward to that also. Here are some pics of the tanks and some of the inhabitants. Also black backgrounds being put up next week :-).

Nice Apistos! I've been waiting months for my LFS to find a pair for me.

Desastre 03-15-2012 08:37 PM

Presents from my lovely wife. She got tired of me talking about them and looking at an empty tank and ordered them for our anniversary.

Bearchumjs 03-15-2012 08:38 PM

To my 5gal betta tank I added another piece of DW and two lava rocks as well as a little moss and some MTS that came in the mail today. :) Did a 10% pwc in the process.

Water 03-15-2012 09:14 PM

I'm maneuvering fish around. I'm trying to figure out Jo to best compliment my Plecos with a few of my other fish. Maybe in my 20 gallon long until they get older. Then move them to my 75 or 50 gallon.

Mumma.of.two 03-15-2012 09:34 PM

Super glued an airline hose to a sponge filter. It kept popping off no matter what I did so I FIXED IT! Hahaha.

All tanks will get a pwc tonight after I cook dinner, and I just spent half an hour tearing my 20 gallon apart netting out guppy fry. Got home from the store and went to check on the tanks as I put some stuff away, and saw a couple fry. So I decided to pull out the survivors seeing as everyone else in the tank was in hunting mode. Only saw two so I didn't think I had all that many left, despite momma guppy being HUGE all week. Started moving stuff around and there were tons hidden. I am pretty sure I got them all and there are probably 15 or 20. I only had to cull one who couldnt swim right. Dante the betta enjoyed the treat. So they are now in a big betta cup floating so they can get to food easily and get lots of little water changes. I also moved them to float to a tank that isn't having heater issues to float in warm water. It will also keep them from getting sucked up during pwc's.

rreekers 03-15-2012 09:46 PM

redecorated my tank, did a 40% pwc, added 2 new fish and a school or cherry barbs.. played musical tank and got all my live breaders into the baby making tank ..

now going to do a water change on my 29g

then cleaning the 20g x-high tank and switching the gravel out for black blasting sand.

I think I'm going to eat dinner first though :)

jkdubs2 03-15-2012 10:25 PM

Cleaned my 10g and my 20g. Fixed both the filters. Did 30% water change in both. And added to my school of tiger barbs. Oh ya I also helped my aunt Do a 50% water change in her 30g goldfish tank. They're messy.

Fishie 03-15-2012 10:35 PM

Added fake plants to 5G , added kenyi to Malawi tank so added fake plant to 55G also. Also added rocks to 55G tank.

Malawi Freak 03-17-2012 02:33 AM

Only added another female saulosi to the breeding tank to expand the gene pool. I'm afraid to put my arms in the tanks right now cause I have poison ivy and have cream all over. I'm going nuts of boredom.

Alyxx 03-17-2012 02:40 AM

Just changed the water in my little fry cup and fed them.
Next day's update : same thing again, just a change for the water in the fry cup and fed everyone. Tomorrow I can get back to my usual routine, but last night my arms were coated in bug spray and tonight they are covered in sunscreen. I spent the weekend working parking at a local music festival out in the hot sun. On another note, I felt sooooooo bad for the goldfish that were won at one of the game booths. Saw a few leaving in little bags with kids, off to an almost certain death bowl.

Bearchumjs 03-19-2012 07:39 PM

I looked at it and thought the water looks like tea from the DW. Maybe I should get a carbon filter.

Tcal01 03-19-2012 07:55 PM

I transferred everything from my 10g to a 20g I got for free. Waiting for everything to settle now

Bubbles0oO 03-19-2012 08:20 PM

Cleaned out all my tanks, fed all my fishes watched a few doze births, and cropped my plants

Mumma.of.two 03-19-2012 08:23 PM

Not today but yesterday I did 9 water changes and am gearing up for 2 more today. I also trimmed all my tiger lotuses. They where taking over my 70g.

Bubbles0oO 03-20-2012 03:49 PM

Today I planted my teachers tank, and tested it.
I'm my 55 Hal I'm going to trim my wisteria and full in some gravel bits that have cratered
In my 16 I won't do anything
I'm my beta I will feed him
In my fry/ snail tank I will feed and clean out the bottom ( covered in snail poo)

Jill 03-20-2012 04:22 PM

Did a 50% pwc on my fry tank, emptied and refilled my 6 gallon to get it ready for the shrimp and plants that are coming tomorrow, emptied, disinfected, and put new substrate in my daughter's 10 gallon to get rid of planaria.....I think that's it. But the day is still fairly young....I'm sure I'll mess with another tank before bedtime.

I did a 80% wc in my 55gal cause I had nitrates at 80ppm got them under control. also treated for septecima in the 55gal..my dwarf gourami has it.. 30% wc in my 29gal too!

Bearchumjs 03-21-2012 12:58 PM

I did a big water change and gravel vac on my 5gal. Betta tank. Cleaned all the diatoms out. It was looking gross in there. Hopefully I didn't vacuum out all of the tiny MTS. I took out the two bigger ones and 1 tiny one that I could see.

I may be a little obsessive about the way the tank looks. I probably clean it way too often. But if it looks gross I can't leave it that way!

sniperfreak 03-21-2012 01:41 PM

weekly 50% PWC, and was overjoyed to see all my fish are over their PWC anxiety, to the point that at one time I had 7 cardinal tetras, 3 bleeding heart tetras and a Bolivian ram trying to get at a snail shell that was caught in the vacuum tube.

Bearchumjs 03-21-2012 07:32 PM

Picture of my tank after I cleaned and rearranged it today. Hopefully it doesn't get overrun by diatoms again.

Coursair 03-21-2012 08:07 PM

Yesterday I worked on both 10g tanks
I scooped out a ton of Duckweed and Amazon Frogbit.
Cut back Ludwigia
Took out extra Bolbitis and Mosses
Let in the LIGHT!!

PWCs on both tanks. Added liquid ferts.
Enjoyed watching both tanks :D

Pics are in my profile.

Sounds to me like the house doesn't have enough power points... Can't be too many tanks, no such thing. I feel your pain, though. I think every outlet but two on my side of the bedroom, plus the outlet extenders stuck into two of them, are taken up by aquarium things. The other two are for a lamp and a phone charger.

Bearchumjs 03-24-2012 01:48 PM

I fed king Neptune and put a tiny peice of algae wafer in for ziggy the snail. Resisting the urge to clean the tank to remove diatoms. I'm trying to hold off until tomorrow.

Malawi Freak 03-24-2012 08:57 PM

Started building my stand for my breeding tanks. Just gotta put on the plywood tomorrow and set up the 45's.

Bearchumjs 03-24-2012 09:22 PM

I went and got a 55 gal off craigslist. Stand, two HOB filters, 1 under gravel filter, 3 thermometers. Gravel, decorations, all for $150!! Tonight going to start cleaning it all up. Bleach is going to be my friend. Lol!

Shay 03-24-2012 09:49 PM

Don't normally post here LOL since everyday there's something to do in one of the many tanks so here goes - deep cleaning / restarting one of the 35's, moving the rest of the extra male sp44 red fins to one of the 55's, the extra male fulus are going in the 75g, post some auctions and who knows what else I'll get done LOL

ErinMcG 03-24-2012 11:10 PM

Put some branches in a bucket of water to start soaking. :)

Still trialing my Pond Matrix in a 20g.

I took a razor blade, dish soap and bleach to my new 55 gal aquarium. Now it's sitting in the driveway with the filters running. :)

Malawi Freak 03-25-2012 10:29 PM

Wow. Talk about a pitched driveway. Lol. Make sure it isn't sitting like that for too long or the displaced weight can damage the seals on that high side.
