Oh and I set up my 2.5 gallon betta tank. I have high hopes and dreams for this tank! I will have a thread to it, it's gonna be "2.5 gallon Betta build" if you wanna check it out.
Well I checked out a new lfs today. A little bare, but the employee was very knowledgeable!
Then I went hunting for pfs, couldn't find it anywhere! So I got some paving sand. Broke my 30g down and rinsed the sand. Then rinsed some more! Dug the gravel out and saved some mts (thanks to my daughter!) and took out the rocks/gems. Then rinsed the sand some more. Put the sand in the tank and now waiting for it to settle some... |
Broke down the canister on the 75 and rinsed it out. Still had some of that horrid play sand I previously had as substrate. Rinsed out all media, added new floss and more ceramic biomedia..... I love all that compartment space! :thumb:
Let's see. I'm a week and 5 days post-surgery and so far I've set up a new 10g for CPDs, started working on my fire belly toad tank, and I'm slowly working on getting my already up and running tanks clean. My poor hubby wasn't much help on the tank front.
Fed frozen bloodworms, gt a new pleco! He's so cuteeeee ( right now he's an inch long )
Attachment 93631 |
Totally redid my 2.5 planted
Picked up 8 Blackskirt tetras, a clown Pleco and 2 melon swords.
Played musical filters on 4 of my tanks and shuffled some fish around. Bought a HOB for my 26g after months of struggling with a dodgy internal filter only to find it doesn't fit over the trim of the tank :banghead:
Attempted to do a head count in the RCS tank, failed miserably.
Took out the hornwort in my 30 gallon ( messy stuff and was tired of having to clean up every needle)
Fed more frozens Tryed to guess what colors my guppy fry will grow into |

Added 8 tetras to the 55. Also another zebra nerite snail. I looked at my 5 gal and thought about finishing the tear down but decided it can sit one more day. :)

Off topic posts deleted.
C'mon guys. Keep the tread on topic and take the chit chat to PM or the chat room. |
Sorry mumma. >.<. I'm getting rid of a fake plant in my 36g
I gave my puffers what might have been their most entertaining meal yet. Found a fat earthworm that was about 6 inches long and just dropped it in the tank. It took them a while to stop being scared of it but they worked as a team and ate it up. Tried taking a video but I thought I pressed cord but didn't.

Today is the usual. Fed fish. Contemplated water change schedule. Dreaded cleaning the 55 gallon again. lol. Also, I'm gonna make the most expensive Amazon.com order yet. I need some CO2 stuff, equipment for the Betta tank, fertilizers, and maybe some lights!! Whew! |
Busy tank day!
I did a 50% pwc on Alfred's tank, in my office, adding a wee bit of salt to help combat the beginnings of fin rot. Also replaced his heater with a new one that seems to be much more effective. And since I was mucking around anyway, I re-scaped it. Came home and tackled my 29 gallon. Tests showed a bit of ammonia still, so I did a 50% pwc on that, emptying the buckets into my veggie patch. Added fresh water with both stability and prime because my tap water has 0.25 ammonia in it right now. Took out the crushed coral I put in on the weekend because my new pH test says I am at 7.2. Fed my neons and my son's betta, Jupiter. Fed Alfred a wee bit before I left the office, too. Stared at my tank, trying to decide if my plants are happy. I think they are. Watched bubbles drift up from my water change. Tried to work out if I could justify staring at my tank more instead if working more. Decided to up-date my tank journal and some other threads instead, but I am running out nor excuses now. |
Turned on the tank lights my angel died. Last night I discovered he had Pop eye when I came home from work.
Fed the crew and ordered some root tabs and new plants. This online shopping thing is starting to get addicting.

I fed my RCS tank dried earthworm flakes..... talk about going nuts! Not only did I have a ton of shrimp, of all ages, going postal on me, all the berried females came out, too. Didn't know I had so many. I'm about to have a baby boom! |
Got my new tanks today! So today I'll be spending the day scrubbing and scrapping to get these things clean, plus they have been outside for a while so they both need new silicone
I put an algae tab in the 55 for the nerite snails. They ignored them completely. All the fish seem to like them. I guess I didn't need to feed them flakes this morning.
Finished tearing down my 5 gal and am cleaning it so that I can turn it into a pico reef in a few weeks. Or whenever I buy rock and seawater. |
Did about a 70% change on my 20 gallon today and will do the other tanks tomorrow.
Laid on the sofa, snuggled with the 3 dogs, got my zen moment just watching the fish.......
I have fed my fish some flake.
Then I'm off to the LFS to get some 39w T5HO LIGEGLO tubes for my lighting upgrade. Jon |
i moved 1 jewel fry to my ten. yes, thats right, one
:D Picked up a very handsome gold nugget pleco for my 75 today......
30 gallon got cleaned and the 5 gallon is next!
Took out all my gravel in my 55g and put pfs in it. :) ill most likely lose some fish and have mini cycle..i.stressed them out really bad..
You'd be surprised at how easily they come through these things. I doubt you'll hit a mini cycle but do check out your filter housing within the next few days to see if you need to rinse sand out of it.
Looks like I have another new batch of shrimplets in my rcs tank. I just adore those little buggers...... definitely one of my favorite species. |
Partial cleaned my 55gallon & re arranged it, & cleaned my bettas tank too.
40% pwc on my 100 gallon. Added pressurized Co2 and planted a few more small plants that were shooting off my Anubis.
Adding a carbon pad to my eheim pro today |
30% water change on the fry nursery.... Then added a ton of plants and make it into a plant nursery aswell.
Attachment 94471 Fed my 30 gallon and noticed a missing corycat had been ,um , eaten. Attachment 94472 And am planning on buying some angels for my 30 gallon , maybe not, the store might not be open on mothers day.... |

Congrads on the new shrimplets! I only have turned on the tank lights so will see how today goes |
just did 50% water changes on all my 3 tanks and hubby's single tank (what is he thinking, just one tank?)
50% change on the water in my main tank. Still no clue what turned up on the glass. :( Seems to be taken care of with the combination of the glass magnet and the gravel vac, but still...

I've just enjoyed my nice clean tanks today, at least until I went to work. Did all the cleaning yesterday and the day before. |

Did some close observation on the 16 gallon. The corys were hiding out the last few days, which is not their typical behavior. Ends up the heater setting had been bumped down and the tank was cooler than it should've been. Once I readjusted the heater to proper temp and hung two thermometers to keep track, everyone was back to their old selves. Pays to understand what's normal for your species. |
It was freaky. I have a small breeding box that I keep my small endlers until they are big enough to live outside it. Its slats in the bottom are big enough so they can fit through, so I stretched pantyhose to prevent their escape. Then today, BANG! Three of the 12 or so were outside the box. I saw that the pantyhose had slipped off a corner of the box. I quickly pulled it back over the corner, and caught two of the escaped endlers. The third one I tried to catch, but then, POOF! He disappeared. So I've lost 2 endlers, one was an experiment to see if they were big enough to put in the big tank, but he... didn't survive long. Found him stuck to the filter intake, dead as a doornail.
I decided to switch my substrate today from boring icky gravel to sand. Took out all my fish, started moving plants, and OH! I found some babies hiding in the java moss lol.
Got some angels ( finally) and got to rescaped the 16 gal

30% PWC on my 29 gallon. Pruned my java ferns. I am letting the daughter plants float, so now when I go look at my tank, I see the ferns floating and freak out a second because I think its a causality. Also did a quick gravel vac in preparation for my plant delivery.
30% change In my 36g & 29g.
Added 10 neons in my 36 they seem to be acclimating nicely. Put 7 gold barb in my 55g to add to the 5 I have now..their kinda nervous but I think they'll be okay.:) |
i took out a ton of java moss from my 55,and added it to my 10. i also saw the one fry i put in there. man,is he gonna be happy
Traded up a angel for 3 red velvet swordtails 1 male 2females. Discovered that I have 3 female platies..:/
Water changes on all 3 tanks today. How did I end up with three tanks?
Topped off the 55 and the 10... water changes to come!
Fed the fish in the 46 bow, and fed my albino ACF and baby oscar in the 10 gallon. 10-20% water change in the 10. Getting the 20 darn near ready for the frog and oscar. Trying to talk the wife into a 120 lol. She don't even like 2 tanks up and going. Boy is she gonna be suprised when I tell her that I want to use the 10 for a breeder/qt. Haven't figured out which yet. Maybe it could be both?

Today I turned on the tank lights. And enjoyed my tank |
Broke my elbow pretty bad yesterday morning at work so used my good arm to fix the sand in my freshwater tank and went ou on my pier and caught grass shrimp for my saltwater tank and this morning I went out and got more real rocks from the water around my pier gonna clean them soon and get them in my tank :) I feel like such a good fish dad
Did 20% PWC. Got In my new plants: 3 crypto prune wendtil(red) and1 lobelia cardinals dwarf. Also, one of my Bolivian rams must have found one heck of a hiding spot. Looked in/outside the whole tank.
Fixed my refugium cause it broke down the middle lucky I got most of the water in a bucket and mit on the floor and added a new frogspawn and zoanthids and a algae blennie and flame scalep
Fed the fish and found my female bristlenose alive, fat and healthy after 2 weeks MIA. Very relieved. :D

I fed them, and I'm going to change the water in one of my betta tanks once I get some food. Spent most of the day at work but tomorrow is my day off and I think I'm going to do a bit of redecorating in my 20 gallon. Got some new terra cotta pots and they are too small for my plants, so they're going in the tanks. |
Big water change today. Vac over the sand to cleanup some debris. Oh, and I tried to do my water tests only to realise that I am out of my ammonia chems. Still no sign of nitrites or nitrates. I keep hoping this thing will cycle soon!
Oh, fed the fishies, looks like my sunset platy is pregnant again from a past male (There isn't any males in there anymore), and I've been finding platy fry stragglers everywhere.
Preparing for water changes tomorrow, I got seachem root tabs. I'm turning my ten gallon RCS tank into a SOWLC (Shrimp only with live crypts), and I found some rare crypts to get me started. |
Tested my water on the 55.
Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 20 pH 8.0 Did a 15 gal pwc. I took out the DW and castle. There was alot of snail poop! Those nerites do an awesome job eating algae. I never see algae except on my plants. Anywho... I actually remembered to put my root tabs in this time. I'm sure my plants will love me for it. Wiped the inside glass with a sponge. I'm not sure why but I've lost 4 neons this week. No signs of disease that i have seen. Hopefully my remaining 7 will not die. I'm not buying anymore. I'll feed them bloodworms tonight before lights out. Considering removing the water primrose if it doesn't start growing. It just stays the same and loses a leaf now and then. I think I need to buy some flourish and excel. I daydreamed about my 5 gal pico reef tank I'll be starting eventually. |
Received some incredibly gorgeous albino long-finned BN plecos I won on Aquabid yesterday. Put 2 adults in the 75, 1 in the 46 and the wee babe she sent as an extra in the 16 to grow out. These guys are unbelievable!

Another 50% water change. Might have seen traces of nitrates in my water tests today, but it may have been wishful thinking. Used the gravel vac to clean up again and rearranged to wood and plants a bit. Nice thing about most of my plants being attached to rocks! I can move them around a lot.
My buddy Titus got some bacterial infection after living in below 50F degree water for the last 2 days (heater was off). Big white spot on his side. I treated him with Melafix today. I hope this white spot will go away in a few days.
Forgot to mention the floating pink plant is in a breeder trap and that I'm looking for sand
Black or white?? |
10% water change of my 20 litre goldfish tank!
Several water changes in my shrimp tanks.
50% water change and gravel vac. Rinsed off the filter pads in the hob and rinsed the sponge in the sponge filter. It was due. The water turned a nasty brown. Did some mild rearranging of the tank trying to keep the live plants in the most lit area of tank.
Weekly water change. Screwed up and almost flooded the basement lol :0
Looked at my pretty fish. :) later I'm doing a water change on my ten gallon, and continued cleaning of my 55 so I can get it set up when I have the equipment.
Manually removed some algae from my 180 litre, done a 50% water change, tested my water then this afternoon purchased 6 CPD's and a nerite snail, spent the last 2 hours watching my fish to make sure they're settling in ok and worked out how many are male and how many are female :)
Broke my filter, switched to my back up, and ordered a new one. :(
Found a good deal on an aquaclear 50 on amazon though and have read good things about them on the forums. |

Rehomed some fish bought on bad advice from LFS and got myself a lovely Betta;
Visited the guys from Tanked on animal planet at there store open. Bought a torch coral from them. Got pictures with them, just weary about posting my family pics on the net.
Why? If someone wanted to do something to you they could get your ip address and find you with our pics lol I want to see there store they opened.
Quote:
I don't post family pics on the net either. I don't blame you. |
Fed fishies.... stared at the RCS for an hour... noticed that one of the shrimp moms dropped her babies... man, are they tiny!
My nursery tank was starting to get icky on account of not having anything in it for a while, so I broke that down, gave it a good gravel vac threw the media in my big tank for the day so the BB wouldn't dry out (which my pleco has taken a liking to pooping on. Eww!) and gave the tank a much needed vinegar scrub, because man oh man it needed it bad! So now its up and running and looking crystal clear :)
Nothing to it fed them and watched em
Sunday funday!
Cleaned the filters on the 55, 29, & 10. Used the resulting water to water my flourishing houseplants and garden! |
40% water changes on my 55,36, and 29. Clean my canister media on the 55g. Cleaned the intake tubes on my aqueon 30 &20 filters. Added some driftwood in my 29g. And last but not least I finally put a background on my 36g. I had a old one laying around. Oh I also fed my fish flakes!
Changed filter, water change, and I watched it for about 20 minutes.
Nothing today, but yesterday I put a new cfl in my 5 gallon and bought some more ghost shrimp to feed the puffers. Was going to get some more frozen clams for them but she was out. Also out of female Bettas. Gotta wait til next Friday and she will have some of both in.
Got an opaline gourami and finally got my peacock eel to eat food lol
I Replanted a few plants that were rearranged by my Blood Parrots.
Picked up a Magnum350 off craigslist for $30! Using it strictly for water polishing as I have a Eheim Pro 2075 already in place. Got it up and running..still doing the every 30 minutes.... is it leaking??? freakout check.. so far so good! tested the water params....finally got my nitrate spike under control..0ppm! Ammonia is at 0ppm as well, thankfully! |

When I fed my black skirts today, they dang near leaped outta the tank. My poor Bolivian rams got caught up in the feeding frenzy and had a 'holy crap' look on there faces lol.

Freaked out over ammonia levels,a dead fish, and parasites!50% water change, and a run to the store for meds
Stared at my tank trying to count all the babies and playing chase the finger with Delilah (female dwarf gourami), gave them their morning feed and watched Frankenstein and frankenfurter (my two big snails) parasnailing for a while, man can those guys move when they want to!
Added a few new rocks for the fish to call home. Yellow lab has been picking on my red zebra so I needed to make a few changes. Also did my water change, scrubbed the glass and cleaned out the filter pads and changed the carbon. I swear I think my fish have a cleaner home then I do lol
