Lollipops 08-13-2017 10:46 PM

Lollipops checking in!!

Ran to the store for another 5 gallon bucket and an "oral syringe" so that I can accurately measure my Prime, Stability, and incoming ParaGuard.

I've been considering GH, KH, and TDS, so I got a TDS meter in the mail. I know it's not a big real for freshwater... it's mostly for fun and curiosity. I'm learning a lot about what makes up water and what minerals fish need... I picked up a gallon of filtered water from the grocery... 5ppm. As opposed to the 214 ppm in my tap water at home. Curious curious.

Spent a lot of time with the tanks today... Water changes all around!!! They were well over due.

To begin with, the five baby platys are little Houdini's and always manage to escape from their container into the big-platy tank!

I had to hunt down three of them before I could start vacuuming!

The shrimp/pleco tank was a MESS. The most algae and debris I've ever had... the tank needed a major over haul. I ended up just catching all of the shrimp and putting them aside while I did the cleaning, otherwise I would've been too scared of vaccum up the little ghosts!!

I have a scare when I MISSED with the net and dropped TWO of them onto the moss below @_@ it was TERRIBLE! I hope they don't die from having been out of the water for a bit :(

The 55 gallon goldfish tank FINALLY got it's second AquaClear 110 :) I installed it last night. But it's no substitute for a good vacuuming. I decided to put the extenders on the filter today. I couldn't use them before because there was too much sand in the tank, but I moved a 10-gallon-tank worth of sand out of the 55 to fill the shrimp tank, so now there's room.

I'm hoping with two AC110s, and the near-the-sand intakes, it'll help to keep the aquarium clean. I have prefilter sponges that are easy to remove, so every now and then, I can cover them in a plastic bag, remove them, squeeze them out, and replace, and it does wonders.

Between finding the babies (which involved moving a bunch of plants), catching the shrimp, and cleaning the tanks, it was A LONG water change day.

Lastly....... the ich medicine came in the mail today :( I've heard LOTS of great things about ParaGuard NOT harming plecos and ghost shrimp! I'm really hopeful.

So today is Day 1 of treatment.... 27.5 mL for the 55 gallon, 5 mL for the 10 gallon platy tank, and for the 10 gallon shrimp/pleco tank, only 1 mL. That's a 20% dose...

I'll go up by 1 mL every day til I get to the full dose... so up by 20% each day until I get to a full dose.

It's FOURTEEN DAYS of treatment for ich, according to the SeaChem site. Or 19 days for the shrimp/pleco...

From now on, I swear to quarantine new fish and plants... Never again :(

I wonder what I'll do for the rubber lip pleco... he's with the shrimp now, but he'll eventually gonna get too big for that tank. On Wednesday the new heater will arrive for the 55 gallon tank so that I can keep the tank at 73F, and both the pleco and the goldie can be happy together.

Putting him in the goldie tank is what brought on the ich in the first place... I imagine eventually the pleco will move back with my goldie in the 55 gallon. The shrimp tank will probably become my "empty"/quarantine tank... or maybe.... maybe I should change the adult platys moving in with the shrimp, and letting the 5 babies have the 10 gallon to themselves... HMMMM!!!

There is always something to be thinking about, lollipops! Sometimes that can be the fun part. Hope the treatment works well for you!

Had a family thing going on - started last week and have been otherwise occupied away from home for the most part. Just been turning on lights and feeding in the am, and a little at night and then lights off.

The Angel babies are doing fair. I lost 2 more the other day. I think again too much feeding. I am doing a ~10G water change to get out the gunk from the bottom of the tank and maybe remove the artificial log stump decoration, there isn't enough flow in the tank right now, and I am getting a bit of fuzz on the DW. Maybe move a Super Red Pleco over there to help clean up.

There are about 25 babies, about 5 were the really late hatching ones. Still very small like guppy fry shape too but growing.

1 is bigger than the rest a pale color one doesn't seem to have any black. There are obvious partial, like half Marble patterns on a bunch. So interesting to see what comes of it. Hoping I can at least get them grown up big enough to see a what color they will become.

At this point maybe should be feeding Brine shrimp, to get them more orange, but don't have time atm.

I missed the weekend water changes, except doing Angelfish now.

Also I moved over another SW stone with algae for the Fuzzy Chiton. He really keeps the rocks clean. I'd move him over to the other tank if I can get him on the small rock otherwise he is very hard to remove and I don't want to hurt him,

Same pair of angels, one month later now have a new batch of eggs on a leaf! Still have the little babies too. Wondering how that will work out with the babies searching for food in the nearby floating plant roots and leaves :banghead:

Did pwc on the 12G & 6.6G FW Edge tanks.

Still shopping for a magical tank (probably used but could be new) to fit all my needs. Did I say magical? So far no magical change the water by themselves tanks yet. Or magical water change fairy included...

Since I will be moving some tanks around in a few weeks to a month, I was hoping to come up with something before I had to move one and then turn around and sell it. Trying to save some unnecessary work.

Pwc on the Shrimp bowl. And the outside Turtle bowl (RH snails, no turtle) Which is looking amazing btw.

I plan to take it down as I found the dreaded one Planaria sliding across the glass when I went to look for the missing shrimp.

Found a hobbyist who has some PRL /Pure Red Line shrimp I had planned to purchase a few from but he's 100 miles away so we had planned to meet in the middle. Unfortunately he doesn't ever come up in my direction.

BUT he emailed me and said he is getting out of the shrimp keeping hobby so I can get all of them for a good price. He has some of a lower quality than I was intending to buy, but I can always sell the lower grade and keep the better ones.

I was wanting SS-SSS near to best grade but not the $500-1000 variety of extremely fine quality for fine breeding, lol.

Instead these seem to look more like S with a decent number of better quality specimens like up to SS and one or 2 very, very nice like SSS. Hard to tell absolutely in the pics.

Anyhoo

The best thing I got done was phase 2 of cleaning out the utility closet and added 2 shelves for organizing the fish mess overflow and storage. Phase 3 will be sorting through each box and only keeping the projects and items I will need soon or can't really replace easily.

All the extra stuff will be bagged as I go and end up at the quick sale table of the BIG Fall Auction for the CAS in October. Have 3 big bags of stuff already sorted from phase one, lol. There will be a lot!!!

Tonight will be a 5G pwc on the Angels & baby tank. They ate all but a few eggs. Have about 10 babies I think still growing up.

20% -40% pwc on the 72G. And 20% on the Betta Spec V.

Oh yeah got my order of Pond Prime 2x the concentration of regular Prime,
2 liter bottle for just under 28. treats - get this - 40,000 gallons or soething like 140,000 liters of water - WOW!!!
and 2 bags of small pellets Hikari. Shipped for free, and weird delivered on a Sunday.

Friday I bought a maybe 8 ounce Prime at the store as to be sure to not run out for around $11. And opened it already :headbang: lol - can't return it now. Plus found another 16 ounce bottle in the utility room, double darn!!! ROFL I am well stocked now! Must mean I need a 220G tank to fill up.

CO2 tank ran out, and algae cuts in right away. I got a new job-ish selling my photography as stock, which has meant lots of pictures of the fish. However, it's also meant processing a lot of RAW data.

The guppy fry we put in with the puffers to eat little bugs we noticed is developing the coolest color combination- black body and orange tail. I'm trying to get a good picture of him, but he's too fast!

I've started feeding the snails antacids. Vanilla will tear the tablets out of the mouths of his tankmates, so I've been putting in two on opposite ends of the aquarium.

Love the snails.

Hey thank you so much, I am concerned about my male ram at this point though he has been flashing as of yesterday.

Fed the babies several times and watched them swim around. Noticed that even for two and a half week old fish there is a pecking order.

Cleaned tank (it's still bad) I'm gonna paint the border after hot gluing it down(on the outside so it's not gonna get into the tank and maybe make a neat lil background with some twine?

Planning logistics for picking up the big 90G bowfront tank and stand tomorrow. Unfortunately I think it is a bit too large for my vehicle will need to get a trailer.

Then the batch of shrimp for the 100+ miles EACH way on Sunday.

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

I just delivered a single ramshorn snail to a happy young woman. I feel like the snail fairy.

Autumnsky 08-26-2017 03:37 PM

Sharing the snail love one snail at a time. I'm headed to get my tank

Barliman 08-27-2017 10:06 PM

I was doing basic maintenance on the 20-long and, for the first time since adding pressurized CO2, noticed genuine pearling from at least one of my plants! I can see a tiny stream of bubbles heading up from at least one leaf. That's neat.

Probably still on phone explaining how this will lead to a reduction in tanks lol :)

Autumnsky 08-28-2017 12:48 AM

I am home and the little ones appx. 50 little beauties made the long drive like troopers.

I bought a inexpensive used 5x RO unit which can hook up to the faucet also from the guy for $50 which included Salty Shrimp remineralizer. These guys are used to it and breed well with it.

It was VERY hard Delapool, to not buy the little cutie pie, sleek Mini M 5G ADA glass tank with Aquasky light and stainless steel ADA filter and the clear glass stand looking like a tiny diamond in the light. With Anubias White and a stunning carpet of bright green with 2.5-3 inches of roots little carpet of grass (can't think of the name right now (not DHG).

Delapool - fuzzy math, that's how, fuzzy math!

My problem right now is they get to hangout in a bucket tonight warmed with air bubbler and will set up their tank tomorrow. Also means I have to clean out one other nano, the 12G Edge tank. Teetering between which tank to put them in right now. It was to be the 12G for the last almost 3 years, the plan anyway.

Thinking of moving a portion of the nano fish in the 12G to the 72G and some into the 6.6G

Moving the 6.6G Chilis in with the PRL in the 12G.

Going to be changing a few more things pretty soon too. But that is all for today.

Gotta get busy! Pics later.
