25 gallon rimless cube build

Okay the tank is a tall cube 18x18x19
My plan for for filtration is aqua clear 110 ( I have a question about this in a bit) I'm thinking for lighting the max spect nano. I would take recommendations of other lights though since I haven't completely decided yet. Tank is wet as of now, but it's just sand, live rock, base rock and ten gallons with a heater and power head. Plan is to move the contents of my jbj 3 gallon over because I have no room for frags and the tank is getting over grown. Now for my question with the filter, the 110 arrived today, and it is HUGE. Much bigger than I expected. Will my tank be able to hold this off the side? Being a rimless and all. I'm just worried I'm going to set it up and come home one day to the tank in a half because the filter cracked it. Here's pictures of what I have so far. |
I love my kesil lights I have one over my 20L and my lps 40b and I love the shimmer they give. For the ac110 they look big but there not that heavy check out inTank they sell custom media baskets and mods for the 110
|
I was looking at the kessils but for the same piece you get +30 watts and spectrum, and controllability of the dimming between time points.

Got my scape, background, more water, and filter running the last couple of days.
Scape looks pretty good but I want a few more small pieces. Filter seems to be holding up, big enough for my heater so I really like it. Going to run chemo pure elite and purigen. I still need a few more gallons along with a list of things to keep coral but as the tank cycles I'll get that coming. I usually like to say the cycle takes about a month or so, so let it begin! |

Ordered the maxspect razor nano 1600k today. That's gonna be sweet to have soon, my pico is completely over whelmed.
Great ammonia and nitrate spike this weekend, I tested Friday and was getting 0 and I Sunday and 1ppm ammonia and 20ppm nitrate. New acan in the pico |
Following along. :-)

Maxspect razor nano came yesterday. I'm so pleased with this light, I put a few frags in last night and they were open today and then my local petco was having a sale so I picked up a Duncan and a zoa frag. Everything but the zoas and Duncan's are testers and when once the tank has proven itself will be moved back
Everything is opening nicely at 40% on both blue and white, should I ramp it up or wait? |
You cant go wrong with waiting a few days. Just eb sure they are acclimated before doing so. They may decide in a day or two that it is too much. I had a simialr issue, didnt wait long enough and ramped mine up too soon
|
I turned up the blue just to keep the look I like going, corals seem to be okay with it.

Added some new zoas a candy cane frag, and a pagorda cup. The pagorda was struggling in my other tank so I moved it earlier than I was going to.
Gonna wait a couple more weeks on Moving my precious acans and frogspawn. Duncan has been closed today, think it didn't like the flow so I just adjusted. Diatoms are going away, and hair algae has been popping up so I added 10 asterina snails, doing good work. |
My Petco has saltwater fish, but rarely corals. Looks like yours had some nice pieces.
I'm following along... |
My petco has dying sw fish and the occasional brown zoa rock for $50 lol
|
The only ones I got from petco are the zoa in the last pic and the Duncan, the rest were from one of my near by lfs's
But I do have to say, the local petco is one of the best I've seen, they have some nice frags most of the time. Fish are alittle less trustable |

Candycane head I put in fell off the skeleton. I've had it happen with frogspawn, result didn't end well. Any it was to save it?
Added a small head of hammer today, along with a green leather, and some random polyps. All small, nothing to impressive. Almost bought a red scooter. There was a ruby next to it for the same price but it was on hold. Maybe if they order some more in I'll buy a ruby for this tank. The regular red was a little skinny so I passed. Would have been cool to get him |
Please don't add a dragonet. They will slowly starve to death, even if they eat prepared foods they are very difficult to sustain.
|
Your right, part of me still wants one but your very right, if I lost it I would be very bummed.
That does lead me into my next question, What to stock? Only thing I'm set on is my baby pair of clowns and some kind of goby, I think I high fin. I think I want one more maybe. Something that's an open swimmer, royal gramma? |
Well my royal gramma stays in the open but they're not known to be open water. Most I've seen stay near rocks and dart back in when approached
|
Could one get aggressive? I believe I could get him to be less shy.
|
No mine is completely peaceful. They're a great fish
