Yeah I thought that's what you meant! I considered panda corys as they are a smaller kind...I had a quick look at the pygmy corys but apparently they are more of a mid feeder than a bottom feeder.

I would say that they are. A betta's stomach is smaller that his eye - this means over feeding can cause problems, the most common problem being constipation. Do not feed your whole tank for 24 hours...

It sounds like your filter is too strong - did you get the correct size for the tank? In the meantime, I have always found that tank decor such as driftwood or rocks and plants give my betta places...
