    newbie with a cycling question

Hi Lynda (again)... just done a water test on our tank changeover, and despite a very slight cloudiness, the ammonia is 0, nitrite is less than 0.1mg and nitrate is within a safe tolerance. We only set it up a few days ago but as mentioned, have used the old filter, 25% of the substrate, and...

    Bristlenose Plecostomus

He's a bristlenose catfish, currently in the middle of a tank changeover and I've moved all his hiding spots (hence I've given him a plastic glass to hide in)... he's going to be the first one in his new home in the morning, hope he likes it (we're going from a 65ltr to 180 so quite a big upgrade).

    Bristlenose Plecostomus

We've got a bristlenose and love him too, so characterful... Be warned though, they grow to be huge - we've seen some monsters!

    New tank, new fishes???

Interesting about the kuhli's, maybe we will try a few more as you suggested then, I really love them when they are about as they are so unusual and characterful, strangely since we've moved all the rocks etc over to the new tank, he's obviously been out more (less hiding places), the other fish...

    New tank, new fishes???

Thanks for your reply. We've had the silver dollars over a year and they seem to have stopped growing but yes we are aware they get big. Bare in mind that the point of the upgrade was to give these fish a larger playground, as for the kuhli loach, we did have two but one died after about 2...

    New tank, new fishes???

Hi all, we have just upgraded our 65ltr starter tank to a new and very stylish Rio 180ltr in gloss white. Its currently going through its cycle and to try and help we have moved over one of the filters from my old tank, about 25% of the substrate, the rocks and live plants leaving my poor fishes...

Sorry Newbie Question but really need some advice -- on cycling

Howdy folks, after much patient waiting and many many water tests, we have finally got there. Nitrite was 0, Ammonia was 0 last night so we went and bought our first fish... very exciting! We decided on a red gourami and a blue gourami and also two flying foxes to help with the algae to get us...

Sorry Newbie Question but really need some advice -- on cycling

Hi there, thanks for your reply. The plants are actually doing really well, they are noticeably growing and looking very healthy having been in the tank for 9 days. The lighting is as standard with the tank (Aqua One 500 PL Lamp), the substrate is just grey mixed aquarium gravel and we have not...

Sorry Newbie Question but really need some advice -- on cycling

No, I haven't put any ammonia in the tank as I wasn't told to originally, and yes its a freshwater tank... i'd love a salt water setup eventually but I thought I'd start simple (not that its simple!)

Sorry Newbie Question but really need some advice -- on cycling

Hi there, I'm new to the forum but really need some helpful, clear advice! I've been reading through the existing posts on here and on other sites, plus talking to a couple of aquatic centres who 'seem' genuinely knowledgeable. We have a new tank which has been running about 10 days and were...
