I just set up my first RO filter and had a coupleof questions.
1. Is it normal for my filter to produce equal amounts of RO water and waste water?
2. Is the waste water consumable for pets - dogs and cats?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Cool, thanks everyone. I made a screen out of the plastic screen material you get for lights in a drop down ceiling. It was easy to cut to perfect size and it works great. No light issues and no fish issues either.
I recently read that it is good to not have a top on your reef tank since it promotes more oxygen and gas exchange. I have also read that people use a complete top which seals the lid.
I would like to hear what everyone thinks. Top or Topless!!!
Go slow and do not rush. Let your tank cycle properly. Marineland lights are a cheap start. If you go LED, 24" strip is big enough. Go to www.drsfosterandsmith.com. I would add some powerheads for water flow, make sure flow does not create any dead zones. Always moving water everywhere...
The live sand I purchased had no die off (smell). The bacteria came in a separate pouch which I disguarded. My question is sand or no sand for a fish with coral tank?
I am setting up a new 30 gallon reef and was told live sand is better since it is easier to clean. I have always used crushed coral for pH. Do I need to add crushed coral to my sand base for the pH benefits?
One thing I learned a long time ago was to make sure you have no "dead water". What I mean is make sure you have current that goes everywhere. No little corner of the tank that gets no circulation. when I first put in my live rock I create a dead zone behind them because my water flow was not...
I could not get my dwarf to eat until I bought some ghost shrimp. They really like the movement. One thing I did to get him to eat frozen was drop some silversides in front of a powerhead. The silverside wiggles down to him and he gobbles them up. Another thing I did was use a long stick and...
Many years ago before live rock hits the LFS. I had a FO tank with skeleton coral. (Blues, Pink, Purples and white). All that coral is stored away and have gone to LR rock. I have not tried the fake coral but the colors are a little too crazy for me. I agree LR is truly beneficial but I a...
Thanks Sniperhank. Yes I remember hearing something about the epoxy you use to make sure it does not include one chemical that could leach into tank. Does anyone know the name?
