I believe my bala shark may have come down with hole in the head disease. He looks like he has a big white "hole" on the top of his head. He was in a 75 gallon aquarium with bio-wheels. None of the other fish in the tank are showing any symptoms of any sickness. I pulled him out and placed him...
Thanks for help! I am doing at least a 50% water change every day on the hospital tank. I will pick up some erythomycin. I did not notice he was sick when I bought him. Trust me, if I had, I wouldn't have bought him. That's what I get for buying fish at Petsmart! Already lost 8 fish out of the...
One of my Bala sharks has gotten fin rot! I tested the water and even had a pet store double check it. The water is in great condition. The only thing I can think of is that he had it when I bought him a couple days ago. I have moved him to a 10 gallon hospital tank. What is the best medicine...
I just dropped my first live plat into my 75 gallon aquarium. I have never used a live plant before. It is a Nymphaea lilly. The package says to just drop in the water and not "plant". It also says that within 20 days it will grow 3-5 inches. The bulb is currently floating on top the water in my...
Anyone ever tried the Nymphaea Lilly in their tank? I just bought one today for my 75 gallon tank. I dropped the bulb in the tank (instructions say not to bury it) and it is just floating on top the water. I have never used live plants before. Any advice for this plant? Any ideas how long it...
The pump came with the aquarium. I do not remember what the gph is on it. The bubbles are actually creating a lot of current, especially the ornament on the right in the pic. The mollies are loving it. They swim into the bubbles to ride the current! LOL The current shoots them up to the top...
q1 : Vinegar water. Rinse thoroughly afterwards though.
q2 : A used filter will be fine, just change the filter cartridge.
q3 : I recommend a bio-wheel filter for tanks that size.
q4 : Helps to fill and empty tanks faster. It also has a gravel vacuum on the end of it
q5 : If you are unsure about...
Angelfish and sharks should not be in a tank for at least 4-6 weeks of cycling. For now you should stick to tetras, mollies, guppies, etc. Your pet store should be able to point out all the breeds that are hardy enough for a new tank. After you have them in there for 4-6 weeks, then you can...
This tank is has been set up for 1 week. It was set up for 48 hours before I put any fish in it. We are using 3 dalmation Mollies and 3 Serpae to cycle the tank. 1 Serpae died and we will be replacing it.
Nitrate= 30
Nitrite = 1.0
Hardness = 90
Chlorine = 0
Alkalinity = 120
pH = 7.0
Ammonia = .5
Hopefully a 50% water change will help. It sounds as if the fish is having trouble breathing. I would test the water for amonia, nitrite and Ph. Keep an eye on him to see if any redness forms around gills and that none of your other fish start acting the same way.
Thanks for the help! Well, since I posted this, I have lost 1 tetra. The other 2, however, are now swimming throughout the tank and are doing fine. It's almost like they had to build up their strength first. The 3 mollys are still thriving! I tested the water and everything was at the safe...
