There are many species that have died out in the wild or are near extinction. Building up a backup population is always helpful.

Apistogramma can get hyper aggressive when breeding... even having the females kill the males. Rams can also get hyper aggressive, though they ussually co-parent. You would have to be cautious.

This is accurate. Actually most plant friendly substrates need to either be filled via drip or bubble wrap methods to reduce turbulence and then still need time to settle.
