How to lower nitrate in nano?

I'd focus more on nitrite spikes. That's a more serious problem I believe. What are the readings of each during a typical "spike".

    Tang compatibility

I agree. No blue tang and the sailfin shouldn't be in a 4ft tank either. I hate'm but maybe a damsel. Very blue and since others are already there first, maybe it won't be too agressive which they can be for such little buggers.

I dont know what species my fish is and i cant see him

No need to tear apart your tank to look for it. Either it wants to hide or is dead. If you've got hermits or other crabs, you won't find much or any fish at all.

    Dry rock

Dry rock can indeed add ammonia sometimes. Think about it. When its added to water it can re-start a decaying process if stuff is still on it. First, brush it off real good under water with a stiff brush. Test the water anyway after adding it. Never assume that because it's dry, there'll be...

    The big move

Keep extra pre-mixed water after the move in case emergency water changes are needed.

    Purple stuff

Don't rely on animals to hide/eat it. You gotta address the source and fix that.
