I have a 55 gallon tank with 8 varying tetras, a 5 inch Pleco, about 5 live plants, and 3 decorative "hiding places". We have soft water and a low alkalinity, which causes pH problems. We recently found homes for our 4 comets and had to totally recycle the tank to get rid of the ammonia and nitrates. Somehow, our Pleco managed to survive through all of that. After waiting for three weeks for the tank to cycle, we had a normal water test and bought the Tetras. Of course, now the water is going crazy again... We are on here to get information and advice on maintaining our tank so that we can keep these poor Tetras (and our persevering Pleco) alive. I don't let fish die... I resuscitate them. I need help.
