If this is an established tank, have you added any new LR lately that may not have been cured? LFSs are famous for telling you that rock is cured when it hasn't. That might account for the Amonia issue. I can't imagine one fish in 50+ gallons would do that.

The tap water here in the Phoenix area is terrible. I had problems with my tank before I switched to RO from the local Water and Ice store. However, it did take me a few tries to find a store that changes it's filters on a regular basis. If you ask, a good store can tell you their schedule...

I purchased this guy at my LFS and was told it was a Maxima. However, it doesn't look exactly like any Maxima photos I've seen on the web. Is there a clam guru out there that has any idea what this guy is for sure?

I have been using a Via Aqua Muti-Skimmer on my 40 gallon reef tank for about three months. A friend suggested that I purchase the optional UV Sterilizer for the Via Aqua. I understand what the unit does. However, does anyone know if there are drawbacks to having a UV Sterlizer on a reef...
