    Wanted: Beginner plants

Looking to buy some more plants for my 20g tank. Currently I have 2 amazon swords that are on the smaller side (<8", apprx. 12 shoots). Also have 3 crypts planted closely (<8") and 2 small crypts (<3"). Not interested in java moss. I already had that and it was messy! Microswords (Lilaeopsis)...

For Sale: 6 month old Eheim 2217 canister for sale in NYC

I have an Eheim 2213 and love it. Dead quiet and does great job filtering and circulating. If I had a big tank I'd jump on this! Good luck :)

    Switching gravel to sand

I recently switched mine from black Walmart aquarium gravel to Black Diamond blasting sand. This is marketed as abrasive material for sand-blasting, but can be used in tanks. Check out some Google images of it. I pulled all my plants, heater, filter, fish and put them in a 5 gallon bucket. I...

    Planted beginner

You can get a Finnex Planted+ LED fixture on Amazon for under 100$. I'm guessing you'd need the 30" unit which is about 88$. I love my 24"

Are the Blue LEDs useful to plants ?

I know, and you can't beat the price since the 24" on Amazon is currently under 72$. I think it was closer to 85$ when I bought it. However, an additional power cable couldn't be but a few more dollars. Add that and 2 separate built in timers and charge 100$ :brows: I'm currently using a 3$...

Are the Blue LEDs useful to plants ?

I got the 24" Planted+ back in November and am very happy with it. Very bright, good color, good price! Only complaint is I wish they had run the blue lights on a separate power cord so you could have the whites/reds on one timer, and the blues on another timer. With only a single power cable...

    Algae and plants recommendations?

Little update... With my rocks and attached java moss gone, that removed the biggest amount of my BBA. Sad to see them go as I've been growing the moss for about 8 months, but the BBA was wrecking my tank. When I removed my java moss I also did a vacuum job to clean the substrate and a 50% WC...

    Growth on java fern

Perhaps remove the java ferns and put them in a black-out to attempt killing whatever algae that may be?

Aquarium plants that are safe for cats?

I'd invest in a glass lid. Also, pet hair in your aquarium is rather annoying. I have 3 large horses (I mean dogs!) and a cat.

    Algae and plants recommendations?

Seachem recommends dosing every day or every other day, at 1ml/10g. So, my 1-2ml a day has been less than recommended, not excessive. For what I've read so far, reducing co2 seems like a bad idea... Prime is not unnecessary if you use to it condition tap water. In my case, chloramine. We...

    Algae and plants recommendations?

From substrate to water surface is 13.5" Water surface to light source is another 2", plus I have a glass top on. Here is the PAR for my 24" 3": 185 6": 117 9": 88 12": 61 15": 45 I watched some videos on Youtube about treating with Excel, so I am going to try that now and keep an eye on it...

    Algae and plants recommendations?

I have a 20g tank with sand bottom and lightly planted. I have 2 amazon sword plants and a large amount of java moss attached to rocks. I have a Finnex Planted+ LED light at 7 hours a day and just decreased to 6 hours, a large Eheim canister filter, 1-2ml Flourish each day, Prime sometimes, keep...
