    Black Mollies

Our mollies sometimes like to swim near the top, it depends. I've never seen them hang out at the bottom, but that's just my experience. The saltwater mollies like to hang out near the top more than the rest... but they're usually waiting for food.

    Water Parameters - Sanity Check

For anyone who wants to know, the reading on my tap water after about two days is about the same as my tank water. pH: 7.6 KH: 13 degrees Calculated CO2: 10ppm Phosphates: 0.25ppm Update: Nitrates from this water are about 5ppm. Do these throw my CO2 calculations off by much? Hopefully my...

    Water Parameters - Sanity Check

All right, that's all good to know, thanks. I guess I'll have to read up more to fully understand. So much to know. Thinking about more than bicarbonate as a buffer helps, though. Now to decide if I want to inject and if I want to make a drop checker...

    blue "moon" light help

Speaking of Christmas lights....I've run rope lights behind my aquarium around the bottom or top before, it's pretty nice. Lots of light if you use LED rope lights though.

Spending money on camera for fish pictures!

If you can get a 50mm 1.8 for your Rebel, you'd be in good shape. I've taken some great pics with that lens. Cheap, too.

    Water Parameters - Sanity Check

@sumpnfishy That's why I specified that it was fresh, hasn't sat yet. I'm planning on taking tests tomorrow to find out what it's like after it's been sitting. @jsoong No, I don't yet. Those are calculated from KH and pH (only way I know how to find out how much CO2 is there) Yeah, the tank...

    Mopani Growth ???

I had this happen when I put mine in. Cleared up in a couple days and didn't seem to harm anyone. Scared me to death, but I researched it and it seems to be fine. Darn wood took forever to get all the tannins out though...

    Do fancy guppies need friends?

My guppies have always been fine by themselves, I usually like to have a lone fancy male in my tanks.

What Made You Want A Freshwater Aquarium?

I like the balance it adds. Two computers on one side of the desk, two tanks on the other. It's nice and relaxing to look over there and watch fish swim around when I want a break from staring at the screen. The final straw was when I got a nice aquarium screensaver, then said to myself "hey...

    Water Parameters - Sanity Check

Just wanted to run these figures by some sane people. Check my math and/or knowledge of parameters. History: I have well water, put through some sort of spendy filtration system at the source (tap water) and I have an RO unit. I'm trying to get my freshwater tanks going again and I'd like some...

Good LFS in Seattle/Ballard area Washington state?

I'm in Puyallup, and there are a couple fish stores I'd like to make a trip to in seattle, but if you get the chance to go to "Liem's Aquarium and Bird Shop" on Maynard Alley in Seattle (international district) you can find some really nice fish at good prices. His stock changes about every...

    Does Everyone Name Their Fish?

I have a great friend in Alaska, I just email her when I get new fish, and she names them. Coolness. I have to look at the list of names to remember them though...they're all very creative...
