Fish are dying! I did everything right!

Actually.. once you've had a death from ich.. you should leave the tank "fallow" without a fish host for the parasite for at least a month, if not 6 weeks. Ich is a parasite that lives in three forms.. a cyst (like an egg) that hangs out in the bottom of the tank (it can stay in this form for...

Ribbon Eel: Diet and ideal habitat

Hi all, I have been away for a while.. but wanted to drop in and ask some advice. I have a 260 gallon FOWLR aquarium containing an emperor angel, a longnose butterfly, a volitans lion, a harlequin tuskfish and a blue ribbon eel. Now, I bought the eel a while back knowing all the caveats...

    lions

55 gallons will be tight quarters fro a Radiata .. have you though of the Antenna? I also wouldn't consider a 55 good for a Tang either// they need more swimming space. You might be able to do a 55 with a radiata and some hardy sessile inverts (feather dusters, some soft corals) but you would...

    Problem with Emperor Angel

I quote Bob Fenner here: Koran angels are more sensitive to poor water quality as marine aquarium species go. Excess organics often show as blotchy white-marked areas, and are directly positively correlated with ease of infectious and parasitic susceptibility What kind of protein skimmer do...

    Which fish?

I have a controversial suggestion.. and it all depends on your fish sizes and what kind of inverts you have in your tank. If your fish are all in the 4" or larger range and you have all corals and few motile inverts, I would suggest one of the lionfish as a nice addition to a tank this size...

    Problem with Emperor Angel

And yes 85-86 degrees is a bit too high.. 79-82 is where you might want to shoot for

    Problem with Emperor Angel

Just took a look through "The concientious Marine Aquarist" by Bob Fenner.. great book! It has a diagrahm of common parasitic disease manifestations.. large white patches may be a sign of Brooklynella hostilis "Anemonefish disease".. treatment is recommended as copper or Formalin. Ich appears...

    Problem with Emperor Angel

I have an emperor and I suspect your problem is diet, especially since you have had simliar problems before. Large angels require some sponge in their diet, I use Formula Foods frozen Angel formula for sponge eating fishes. Since adding this to a diet of Mysis shrimp, krill and nori, I have...

    Ribbon Eel

I am getting ready to build a 180 gallon to accomodate my growing fish (1 emperor angel, 1 volitan lion, 1 longnose butterfly) and was thinking about a ribbon eel to complete the collection. YES I know they are very hard to keep.. but has ANYONE had success with getting them to feed?

    Eel not eating

Large carnivores like lions and eels can go for WEEKS without eating in the wild.. and have been known to go on occasional feeding strikes in the home aqaurium. Check the eel for any visible damge to the mouth, eyes or ventral surface.. if nothing appears to the naked eye, and your water...

Who do you use now that FF Express is no more

I just had a good experience with www.marinedepotlive.com I got my Emperor Angel for $58 , my Longnose Butterfly for $28, and my Volitan lion for $23. They came very well packaged and in good physical shape.. the lion was a bit small.. but the butterfly and angel were perfect. All three are...

New Shaky Pictures of my New fish!

Re the butterfly.. it is eating like a champ.. took a couple of days.. but loves Mysis shrimp and nori. This one is the super longnose butterfly (longer snout and black bar comes to cover half of the eye) and I chose this one becuase they are supposed to be easier to get to eat.. May be moving...
