Well, I just noticed the bulges on the fish and he seemed to be gasping but moving ok. Then like 20 mins later, I noticed he was letting the current move him. Then I found him Laying vertically with his head down in my java moss, gasping. Then he was dead, floating all around.
I did some...
I dont know, I thought that usually looked more like little white sprinkles, these are more streaks. It is possible it may have been a pre-exhisting condition I didnt notice, I just want to make sure I dont need to be dosing my fish with something, Thoughts please? I dont want to loose any...
Hey,
I cant get a picture, but im a little worried about my velvet male swordtail. I noticed today that he seems to have some bulging mostly along one side with a darker red-ish hue. I cant decide if he is swimming differently or not, but it does seem like he is allowing the current to move...
Hey All,
I was wondering what this strange red growth is (Red Algea?). Attached is a picture. Ive got some fishies and my cycle appears to be complete. My water parameters are as follows:
pH: 8.2
Hardness: Very High
Nitrates: 30ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
Ammonia: ~0ppm
16 gal with only 5 small 1...
Hm, interesting, well they arent hiding, well one spends more time hiding in my greenery, but they seem to like to mingle where the up-current and bubble current are. I suppose that means they like it.
Hello all,
I just got five guppies in a 16 gallon tank and was wondering, is it possible to have to much current in a tank? I have a bubble bar and my power filter situated such that there is a fairly brisk circulation in the tank (Its nothing terrible, but the guppies do appear to...
Ya, sorry, I do work with salinity exchange in the ocean and thats usually measured in ppt so I forget there are other percentage units. I actually did the fish flake myself a while ago, i've also done the ammonia check on the test kit in that fashion before and gotten reasonable changes in...

I actually got mine from wal-mart, it dosn't have surfactants and didnt foam when i shook it....I looked around online and others have used it for fish-less cycling as well.
Ya, I think the stuff your thinking of is Bio-spira and its kinda hard to find at the LFSs, I know none of the stores in my area carry it but you have to make sure that its properly carried (has to be refridgerated and stuff). If your looking for the bacteria in a bottle, this one supposedly...
Ya i got some gravel from a friend of mine but I dont think I got enough. Plus i've heard that its best to take the gravel and put it in a nylon sock or other mesh-like material and hang it next to your filter intake so that the little critters living on it go into your filter and onto your...
Yep, though question, when you say in tank water, to you mean swish it around IN THE TANK in the tank or water, or in tank water that you take out, but in a vessel, swish, then dispose of. I always assumed the latter, hopefully thats accurate.
So I was remiss and never got around to posting a hello here!
So I'm a graduate student at the Pennsylvania State University in Central PA working on climate studies and more specifically estuary and ocean modeling. My girlfriend and I recently bought our 16 gallon tank and are currently in...
