The tank is about 18 month old. I couldn't tell you how much live rock and sand I put in but the sand is about 2" thick and the rock is about 1/3 of the tank.

I should say I do have a snakelock in my tank but I haven't seen he for about a week now?

All can just just say its high nitrates I have the problem with. It's ammonia and nitrite the fish don't like......

An anyone advise please my nitrate levels are circa 50ppm but all my other test are well within the norm range. Tested ph 8, nitrite 0ppm ammonia 0.25ppm kh 3.2mg, sg 1.024 ca & mg are both well high. How do I drive the nitrate levels down?

Yes I have a float system setup on my tank, I like my ph to be around ph8.2 which I get after a water change but then it drops no matter how much I put buff in! I was thinking maybe because the top up water ie not salted was lowering my ph?

I have a 500ltr tank and I had a orange spot in my tank and the sand was great, he kept it nice and clean all the time. He was a good feeder as well. All this was before he jumped out of the tank and then my dog eat part of it!!!! I know it’s odd, why would a bottom feeder jump out of a tank?

I would guess thats your problem then, in a small tank it could make your water look milky, maybe take him out or just live with it, or you could try feeding him less. good luck

looks like you have some Anemones in you're tank? if they are, sometimes they poo which can make your water look a bit milky! that could be your problem?
