Do you need a tank back ground?

looks good, I even thought about getting felt drapes, in black, nice soft background. currently I don't use anything and the back room just adds depth to the tank , you don't see the water line so it looks like the fish are just floating.

that's funny you mention car tint, I was just looking at 50% tint myself and applying it to the back of the tank. cheap and simple

Do you need a tank back ground?

I don't use one just so I get more of an illusion of depth in my tank. it's like looking into the black abyss !!!!!

    New tank wall in progress

if that's your bedroom, to clean things up do what I did, make a fake wall and put the tank behind the wall and frame it, then it looks like a flush picture. add a few feet behind the tank so you can walk in with a small door on the side. since your already building the tank stand with lumber...

Update on drip tank, no water changes for over 1 year

the fish are all at least 5-7 yrs old, I established this tank 10 years ago. had canister filters, FLUVAL's, then moved to sump, then moved to drip with sump. all the Fish in the tank were existing when I started my drip system. Active charcoal carbon filters are most effective at removing...

Update on drip tank, no water changes for over 1 year

WOW, it's been a while since I've posted anything, that's because the aquarium was taken out of the equation, except for feeding time. otherwise, my tank is maintenance free. don't get me wrong, it took years to get to where I am now with trial and error. but i'm happy to say everything is...

solar advice for FW, tired of power outtage

hey, I have 150gal FW running a sump with a pump in the sump. I don't remember the wattage off hand, but I have 200 watts of solar panels and I want to hook them up to the tank and have my fish off the grid. i'm not concerned on how much power I need, i'm more concerned on how to design the...

**Update** 2 months and no water changes

it's not in the picture but I have a water sensor on the fresh water coming in to the block, and on the way out, so I can get a snapshot of what the carbon block is doing.. but yes, I plan to replace it once a year on a schedule. since my flow is only 40gpd, it only increases the longevity of...

**Update** 2 months and no water changes

yea love that coralife airpump, quiet and strong, but I was thinking of getting a piston pump to power everything, instead of having several different pumps. I have a pump for the sump for my 2 bubble walls, one pump for each, I have a pump for my bubble wand vac I made (I use it to vac the...

**Update** 2 months and no water changes

Yepper. it's going through a 3 carbon block drip system. I know what your thinking, municipal water and chlorine. but you have to remember, water is not flowing into the tank at a quick rate, it's going at 40GPD. that means the water is in 1000% more contact with the carbon. which...

Newbie with a story and ammonia Question

can't add any more than what was said above. for a beginner, the water change is your best friend, best and simplest way to remove nitrates. one trick is to keep a container of fresh water, if you have water in a container you can aerate it and remove any chlorine before you do your water...
