    Fluval Sea Evo Beginner Setup

I have kept freshwater aquariums, mainly cichlids for about 15 or so years now and looking into trying my first marine setup. I want to try a nano setup using the Fluval Sea Evo basically because of its ease of setup and maintenance plus affordable price. It’s around 13.5 US gallons I believe...

    CA Cichlids

Earlier this year I got my adult male Jack Dempsey a 180gal (5ft x 2ft x 2.5ft) upgrade from his previous 55gal in which he lived alone. I've also been growing out some young cichlids in a 40gal with plans of eventually adding them to the 180gal. This includes 2 x 4inch female Salvini's, 3 x...

    Spotted at the LFS

Oh haha sorry! We don't actually have or use the term big box store in Australia where I'm from so it didn't really mean anything to me so didn't think about what it meant. I just searched it. Oh dear [emoji28] Really didn't mean to sound like a jerk either, just was surprised to read that as...

    Spotted at the LFS

Wild Siamese fighting fish still live in puddles, flooded areas of jungle, rice patties and pretty much any slow moving or still water in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. They are called Siamese fighting fish because Thailand was formally know as Siam. Asia is a continent made up of many...

    My planted 55

That's fair enough [emoji4] everyone has a recipe that works best for them! As a photographer and graphic designer it's just something that I regularly use as composition tool and find it aesthetically pleasing. Hence why I called it the 'Golden Ratio' not the 'Golden Rule' as some people do...

    My planted 55

Awesome tank! Only critique would be to look at some tanks that are designed using the golden ratio. The driftwood in the middle of the tank seems to be the main focal point followed by the tiger lotus. The two focal points ATM look to me like they are challenging each other a bit with their...

    Please help... what is this?

I think it may be an extreme plume of biofilm. I think maybe because there is little surface area in the tank for bacteria to colonise, the biofilm is just attaching everywhere in the water and creating waste that is falling to the bottom. In a tank with gravel and large bio filtration all the...

I can't tell if this gourami fish is pregnant or just eats a lot?

Think it's a female 'Honey Gourami' Trichogaster chuna if I'm not mistaken but yeh everything @coralbandit has said here I couldn't agree more with.

    Aggressive jack Dempsey

I 55g is a small tank for a single Jack alone. If you put anything else in there with it one or the other will almost definitely be killed. I single adult JD will be a big enough bio-load in a 55g as well.

I can't tell if this gourami fish is pregnant or just eats a lot?

It looks like it has dropsy. It may be a bacterial infection or parasites. Are its scales sticking out?

Does anyone know what this is

Detritus worms are not a single species of worm it's a general term. The terms detritus worm includes black worms and tubifex which can get large.

    Help with Bolivian Rams

Totally agree, if you want to keep any of the other fish alive in the aquarium you will need to either re-home the JD or re-home everything else.

    dither fish and ramirezi

Dithers are usually referred to when talking about larger, more aggressive cichlids. Ramirezi are a dwarf cichlids and can be kept with a huge variety of community fish that have similar care requirements. What size is the aquarium?
