Question. How old does a tank have to be before considering adding a mandarin fish? And is a 3 ft 40 gallon considered big enough, or should u really only get one if u have a 55 gallon?

How many gallons is the SW tank you will be starting?

None of the tanks you listed are big enough for a yellow tang. The others seem like good choices (clowns are particularly good for beginners, very hardy). Liveaquaria.com has tons of info on fish, their tank requirements, and compatibility with other fish. You should check it out. Good luck!

But why do sharks need round tanks? Just a little disclaimer...I don't plan on getting a shark, just curious.

I waited two weeks before I put anything in it (to be exact the tank is about 6 weeks old). The rock was cured when I bought it, and I was using substrate from a previously used tank. Ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 20, ph 8.4

How long would you suggest is an appropriate time to wait?

And I don't intend to add any other fish for a week or two

Hi all! I'm new to the hobby, and I just recently got a 40 gallon (36 in long) saltwater tank. So far I have three turbo snails, 1 royal gramma, 2 hermit crabs, and 2 clown fish. I'm trying to think of what I might want next and am open to suggestions

I just bought a 40g tank, and it came in a kit with lights and a bunch of other stuff in it. The light in the kit says that is ideal for freshwater, but I have a saltwater tank. Can I still use this light? Or should I just buy a new one?
