since I got my Betta and ghost shrimp into my 6 gallon set up. So far they are doing great with the exception of two of the four shrimp have met their doom thanks to the Betta. All of the chemicals are checking out 100% - a - okay. I have 3 nice pieces of driftwood that sit in the center of...
It was a test strip test. Maybe I misread it. I more than likely did. It was a Mardel brand 5 test strip. I don't have the money for a master test kit at the moment. I was hoping to get the fish into the tank today or tomorrow.
Hey everyone,
I am setting up a 6 gallon tank and I just got done testing the water everything checks out but one thing. The hardness is very hard. I used Distilled water, and I have used it in the past and I don't ever remember my water being to hard. It is about 120 on the hardness I...
I just did a test and my pH is a little on the high side. Not to far off. I forgot to get an Ammonia test kit however. Need to go get one. Oh and another question I am not using a heater in the tank, but the temp. in the tank is 82 degrees. Am I going run into issues with that high of a...
Alright, sounds good. About how much food would you add just a pinch? Oh and I saw another thread about how to plant and it mentioned Java Ferns and Crypts, My substrate in the tank is fairly deep. I wanted to give myself enough to work with. When I do plant should I plant the Java Ferns a...
Alright, I think I understand so wait 2-4 weeks after I plant to add fish. Make sure my Ammonia and Nitrites are at zero and make sure the Nitrates are rising. So when that all hits zero and I plant do then start supplementing the tank with alternative ammonia source?
Oh man right on, thanks for the help. Seeing how I used a live sand, how long would you advise I wait before adding the Betta and shrimp. I need a solid growth of algae for the Yamato shrimp so it will be some time. But any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I am aware that the live sand will die. I chose it for the reason I got it for a really good price and I was looking for a freshwater alternative but no one in my area had any what so ever. So enough the sand will be populated with its freshwater counterparts. The light is a florescence...
Yesterday I started setup on a 6g eclipse set up. I used a marine live sand substrate. I rinsed it thoroughly and I am actively checking chemicals to make sure there are no issues with salinity. I have 3 pieces of driftwood in there as well. The water is incredibly clear already. I wanted...
Oh nice, thanks for the advice. I was checking things over I am going to go with a 6 gallon instead of a 3 gallon. That way I think I should have enough room for a bamboo and these other shrimp look great I'll look for them.
Thanks for the help.
Ya I am glad you said that for the reason that years ago I had this huge shrimp that I had got with my other ghost. It was pretty aggressive toward everything, but it did not last particularly long. I am willing to bet the betta got it.
I find that going from my huge tank down to a small 3...
Awesome, well I will try 2 or so ghost to start with give them plenty of cover so the betta doesn't out right eat them from the get go.
Any advice on the type of betta that would be best suited for this?
Right on, I had heard that and was hoping that there was a way to make it work but no worries. I don't want to put a bamboo in there if it won't do well.
Thanks Speed,
Great thanks for the advice, I had a betta in a 10 gallon more or less by himself years ago he had plenty of plants, rocks and driftwood to explore and I had ghost shrimp in there he would pick one off here and there but they had plenty of spaces to hide in.
My idea here is...
