    Are snails overly sensitive

Hiya Clownfish =) Snails are, of course, very sensitive to copper. But since your other inverts are fine, you can rule that out. The only other possiblities I can offer would be poor acclimation or possible starvation. Snails need acclimation time to adjust to changes in salinity and...

    Finally done

Heeey! You did a fantastic job rock scaping. I bet your fish are loving it! Your tank is gonna be incredably dramatic when those corals take off. Each polyp and shroom will be like a little explosion of color on that deep black background. I'm really looking forward to more pics as it...

    water pump trouble

Hiya Hara! I just wanted to mention that priming a pump for the first time is no easy task! I use an Iwaki and the 2 times I've had to prime it after fitting new plumbing it was a real challenge. Both times, I've had to hold my hands over the intake pipe while Gabe poured pitchers of water...

    Black Sand substrate

We special ordered the regular CarribSea Oolitic sand (8 bags of it) from Critter Company. OMG it was a hassle! We had to pay for half up front before they would order. They said they would call us when it arrived. Several days passed, so we stopped back in to see what was up and there was...

Saltwater tank that looks like a FW setup

LoL! That looks crAzy. His fish may be confused but if they are getting enough food and the water quality is good I bet they don't mind the odd scenery. Sandstone doesn't leach anything weird, huh?

    Stupid lighting question

Ohhh ok. I was thinking you were looking at DIYing a fixture using a standard normal output remote ballast. But yeah, upgrading the endcaps will make sure water can't creep up into the fittings and short them out. =) Have you ever seen those Lights Of America flood lights at home depot...

    GRRR! I am so-oooo mad!

You know Gabe and I would love to lend a hand. =) And I do know a place in town that has some nice quality bulkheads if needed. Those shut off valves are cool too. Really, you can make it as simple or as complex as you like. Keep us posted!

    Stupid lighting question

A 40 watt remote ballast from Home Depot with rapid start (no starter needed) will run 2 t-12 normal output 40 watt bulbs. Thats everything from a shop light to a actinic 03. If you are looking to DIY a small canopy for a refugium or a fish only tank, these inexpensive parts will work fine...

    Stupid lighting question

The ballast will be the same. They are just normal output flourescent ballasts. The difference is in the endcaps. You'll want to get ya some nice water resistant ones like these from HelloLights. Hmmmm and DrsFoster&Smith has the Coralife 1 1/2" push-in T-12s that are very nice as well...
