    Help! Algae!

Thank you so much! - I've cut the light down to 8 hours - Got a magnetic algae brush for the tank that actually worked great. - Ordered some new low light plants, since I think many of mine are done for. Will put those in as soon as I can rinse and soak them. - I did use root tabs before...

    Help! Algae!

Also I have no idea what the whitish wormy thing stuck on the driftwood is. Today is the first day I’ve seen that.

    Help! Algae!

And a few more. Will that low light kill my plants? Should I take out the algae covered ones and put in plastic until I can order more live ones?

    Help! Algae!

I have an algae problem that's gotten a wee bit out of control. I don't have a lot of experience with aquariums. I have a 20 Gallon high lightly planted tank. Current denizens are 2 amano shrimp, 5 bloodfin tetra, a pleco (purchased to stem the algae issue, worked for a while...) and a variable...

    vacation question

Hi - I'm having trouble finding a fish feeder for a short trip, and I'm wondering if my fish will be okay. I'm leaving on Saturday and returning on Tuesday. I could try feeding them Saturday, but I usually feed them in the evening so I'm not sure they'll realize it's food time. So they'd be...

How to feed a baby pleco

Thanks! I left the squash in overnight, I'll take it out in the morning. I'll try some by the heater tomorrow if it hasn't been munched on. Will he gradually get used to his tank mates eventually? I hate seeing him spooked by the others. Although I'm probably obsessing a little bit about it.

How to feed a baby pleco

Follow-up So, I put in some butternut squash, raw, on a bamboo skewer for easy removal, tucked under some wood. So far no takers. The tetra pecked at it and quickly became disinterested. Vernon swam that way, but he's easily spooked. He's scared of the bloodfins. I don't think they are being...

How to feed a baby pleco

Thanks!! How often do you do that? I don't have any zucchini at the moment, but I do have some butternut squash I can try tonight. Do I need to cook it at all? And will the shrimp like it too?

How to feed a baby pleco

Hi! I just got a little baby pleco (only about an inch long) for my community 20 Gallon High tank. It's moderately planted, and contains 5 redfin tetra, 2 platys and 2 amano shrimp. I got the pleco to help with an algae problem, and he (Vernon) is slowly making headway on cleaning the glass...

    Plants - beginner/low tech questions

Thanks! So is potting in net pots with something like fluval stratum a decent way to go?

    Plants - beginner/low tech questions

Hi - I have a 20 gallon high community tank, and I'm new to fish. The tank contains 5 bloodfin tetra, 2 platys, and 2 amano shrimp. I might add a few more shrimp and another platy, but I plan on keeping stocking on the low end. I currently have a small red sword planted directly in the gravel...

    Shrimp feeding in community tank?

Hi - I am new to fish... I have a 20 gallon high tank. After an unfortunate incident involving some goldfish brought home from the county fair (and subsequent purchase of tank), I cycled the tank without fish and with pure ammonia. Nitrite and ammonia are now consistently at 0ppm. I do about a...
