    Which is what?

Yep, red cyano, you got it. Water changes, and reduced feedings, and a good strong skimmer.

    Algae on my sand bed?

If your tank is new(say less than 6 months), then you are experiencing what a lot of other people go through. If you could post your tank specs and water parameters, maybe even a pic, it would be a bit more easier to help you diagnose and eventually fix your issue. On the general side though...

    new tank cycle

    I would say yes.

    new tank cycle

Do you have access to some already cured LR and/or live sand? This is where local clubs and fellow hobbyists in your area can really come in handy. This is called "seeding" your tank and, IMO, is much easier to attain the cycle and get the bacteria going. Using the raw shrimp isn't a bad idea...

    nuissance algae--very long post!

I would definitely say increase the flow. What is your lighting schedule? Some carbons have been known to leech trates and po4 back into the tank. Just because your test reads "0" does not mean that you have no trates or po4 because it is being used up so quickly to feed the algae. But if you...

Starting a 29g tank, Few questions about setup & fish..

TheChad- Post another pic of your tank with the algae in it. Is the algae red or green, or a rusty brown?

    Starburst polyp has gone crazy!

Prune them and sell them as frags or trade them with other fellow reefers. I take it you are talking about green star polyps? Got any pics? Ususally you can peel them off the rock, or score off the section you want to remove and peel that off. Some other stinging corals placed close by will keep...

Starting a 29g tank, Few questions about setup & fish..

Unfortunately, snails are some of the best algae grazers. Get a couple of Mexican Turbos and you'll be very surprised at their ability to rid the tank of most of your algae. Cerith snails will burrow in the sand and keep the sand bed stirred up for you, as well as eat the algae. Hermits also eat...

Starting a 29g tank, Few questions about setup & fish..

The best way to go about this is w/o the use of said fish and w/o chemicals. Your tank may cycle quicker with a smaller volume of water(hence the small spikes in no,no2,no3, and po4).. Almost everyone goes through the algae stage, some worse than others. If you have no snails or crabs, then now...

Go with two powerheads, one in each corner.

I agree with the fishless cycle as well. And deffo no harm intended, we all just want to see your tank and it's inhabs thrive, not just "get by" or merely survive. Fish and such act different when in survival mode than in natural mode and the latter is much more enjoyable to look at. There has...

Starting a 29g tank, Few questions about setup & fish..

SInce it looks as if you are going to stay with ugf, then I would personally mount one powerhead on each tube, but at least on two of them. Which two? Either the 2 outer or two inner tubes. Since you can point the powerhead outlet pretty much in any direction I would say the outer two...

    Im giving up...

Phosphates and Nitrates just don't show up, they are a result of some kind of addition to the tank in bio-load. Unfortunately, results are not going to be instant and it may take a few weeks for progress to be seen. I'd would stick with, reduced feedings, reduced lighting, and some larger and/or...

Starting a 29g tank, Few questions about setup & fish..

At 2.5 weeks I would hardly say that you're tank is cycled, IMO of course. Some damsels are just plain mean, so it could be fighting. I would go with handling at the fish store as a possible cause. As for your acclimation procedure, sounds good except for the bag pouring. Also, I would never...
