    Sump/Protein Skimmer question

You always want to drill that hole but you never want to rely on it. It could easily get plugged with algae, a snail, gravel, or pretty much anything. The key is to have redundancy to an OCD degree. So drill the hole & have a one way check valve. And as far as taking your time you will learn...

    Siphoning sand

There are large compelling arguments on both sides of the fence. I have seen beautiful successful tanks that have take both routes for years.

    Siphoning sand

If your going to syphon or sift it do it regularly if not then never do it. Don't wait long periods then do it on a whim. That's how you get a spike. Practice will get you the point that you don't make a mess or causing cloudy when doing it. Just control the flow by pinching the hose if...

    Sump/Protein Skimmer question

Wouldn't gate valves be better? I had heard that by restricting the output you put back pressure on the pump making it work harder than it should, eventually burning it out sooner. To limit my flow to the DT, I put a splitter after the pump out put & have one line run back into the sump with a...

    Cheap LED solution???

K, well looks like the flood lights are down to $70ish now. Cheaper than the LED board I posted but you get the blues in there so I figured it's worth it. However, it's good to have options and the ones I posted are still WAY cheaper than others.

Melanin is why human skin tan & corals do not have that. That is an unrelated metaphor.

Calling experienced seahorse keepers - feeding question

Look up "lafishguy episode 70" on YouTube. He talks about his source of seahorses & has them shipped from Florida to California.

Calling experienced seahorse keepers - feeding question

I've heard seahorsesource.com is a good place. I'd also check liveaquaria. I don't think the breeder I help ships b/c the 4 LFS near us gobble them up but I get home in a week & will ask him. If u want PM me w/ your address & I'll see if he will ship.

I've seen Erectus in yellow, purple, red, browns, & grey. They also change color a bit to match their surroundings.
