I think you'll be fine with a good rinse and an air dry. You won't introduce any chemicals in your tank if you don't dip the test tube in the tank. Use a pipette to draw water from the tank and fill the test tube.
I'm not sure how small a tank you could comfortably house cory cats in. Shrimp on the other hand are easier. Just keep it covered because if they're not happy, they'll make a run for it. With some cover the glass shrimp would be happy. Red cherry shrimp or Amano shrimp would be happy too.
