    Unknown things

Not really sure what these things are. They look sorta like cocoons with feelers on the ends. They do move around the tank though VERY slowly, and they seem to like algea. The two you see moved to the new calerpa, while other are located on a piece of bleached coral, & in my power filter...

    Idea for a lift system

Actually loganj thats exactly where the full idea came from....the idea of the airlift started it but staring at my new skimmer the air intake gave me the idea. As for the pipe sizing I'm using the idea of the OD being 1/4" and the ID being about 3/16"...so I hope that it works. But if anyone...

    Idea for a lift system

The main idea behind this is so that my larger pods (which I'm proud of) won't get chopped up....least that's the plan. As for the questions: following the basic principles of gravity I expect that yes it will fill with air to a certain point. Following basic laws of least resistance, when...

    Idea for a lift system

I've been reading alot about air lift systems to get pods from a sump to the main tank without chopping them to bits. From what I've read though air lifts only seem to have a short head level....so I came up with the idea below. Basically I plan on having a 1/4" pipe leading about half way...

Found a great source for a skimmer

After all the reading I've done I finally got a skimmer. I got it off of eBay from tonsofgoodies. For the price (29.95+S/H) it has to be the best skimmer out there...it works for tanks up to 180 gal, comes with the power head...and isn't some DIY...its a professionally made skimmer. Sorry if...

    Blennies

Well I couldn't tell you why he has eyebrows...but for the hand thing (if he's captive breed) then he thinks you might have food for him. Who knows...if your lucky you maybe able to train him a little. PEACE, DHS

I'm pretty sure its a pod...but what type?

What I meant is that I have tons of these pods running wild in the tank. These two are just the largest so I think of them as the parents to the brood. I'll try and get some better pictures, though it took me 8 shots just to get that one...but maybe I'll get lucky. Peace, DHS

I'm pretty sure its a pod...but what type?

Found the parents to almost ever running critter in my tank. They are around 1/4 inch long...that minus the antenni. But if anyone can get my an exact type of pod then that would be great. Peace, DHS

    Night Light Question

Well I know that Blacklights are used on night time lizards who otherwise wouldn't get the needed UVs (I use them on my leopard geckos). I was just thinking that with a low enough wattage that the emmisions of UV would be to low to even penetrate the water....but maybe I'm just thinking wrong...

    Night Light Question

I'm trying to think of a good way to have a night light for the tank (won't be on for more then 2-3 hours at night). Mostly something that allows me to see the fish but not to bother them for the night. Now I've been thinking of using a very low (15-45 watt) black light bulb or maybe just a...

    chocolate chip starfish

Well then I guess I'm just lucky that my CCS finds enough to eat that he doesn't bother any of the other "inmates" BTW here are the pics of my CCS and my tank:

    chocolate chip starfish

Ok thought I'd add in my 2 cents on this one. First off I have a CCS in my reef tank...and he doesn't bother anything in the tank. Not my corals, not my shrimp, not my feather duster, heck he only goes after the snails to get the algea off of the shells. At times I'm starting to believe that...

    salt levels in reef tank?

Normally salt level should be between 1.02 - 1.026. Least from all the books & sites I've read thats the range...so you should be ok. PEACE, DHS

Lighting (Too Much or Too Little?!?)

Well the ideas around here keep getting better and better. Though I'm trying to keep my priceing of my lights down...since I already have a 1 or the 23 watt PC bulbs thats where I want to start. I thought of using the 175 watt MH since I've read that it will be sufficient for the corals that...
